bless AO3's default behavior of silently keeping us subscribed to a fic forever. i was spinning circles recalling nothing but "maskfic!! the one where the mask can't come off!!" and swearing up and down i had it bookmarked somewhere (i did not) when i remembered one last list to check.

now obligated to proselytize: despite the threatening sky and shuddering earth (they remained) by @praximeter

...and i could have also, apparently, literally just searched tumblr for "maskfic."

Hi!! I saw the recent influx of fic love on your page and it reminded me that I always wanted to message you; just to let you know that I read 'despite the threatening sky and shuddering earth (they remained)' a good while ago and absolutely LOVED it. but i especially wanted to tell you that i still think about the line 'i know his body better than i know my own' to this very day. and that it shook me to my core, like, more than I can ever acutely express. so, thank you.

Hey there! Thanks so much! That’s one of my favorite lines, too, and it showed up on the very first page of the outline that I started scribbling once I posted snippets of that plot bunny on my tumblr all those many moons ago. Glad it connected, and thanks for dropping in to say hi! :)

I've spent a lot of time thinking about why I love angst so much. In songs, movies, TV shows, books, and especially fanfictions. In fan fiction I love angst with a happy ending.

And I think I figured it out? Why I love it so much. Angst is like a dull knife cutting into you. It doesn't pierce you, it sinks in.

A happy ending is the relief of the knife being pulled out. It's not always, but sometimes is, firecrackers. Sometimes it's also a drink of alcohol sitting pleasantly in your stomach.

But it's the angst that sits with you and it feels good when that feeling is gone.

And OMG I got halfway through drawing that arm and was like “What kind of mad scientist designed this thing?! Oh yeah, it was Zola.” And I’m not gonna lie I just started making it up at some point. *shrug*
