Finding our step || Dora x Mason
Dorothea had been at Masons since the day after the presidents ball. Edwin had lost it when he had caught them in the court yard together. The argument there after had resulted in a few broken objects, words they probably didn’t mean and Dora packing her things and leaving. She’d showed up at Mason’s door, no where else to go but to him. Of course he let her stay, a few disagreements as to who was sleeping where and who got to use the shower first.
It may have seemed dumb and stubborn but Dorothea still wanted to keep things distant between them. She didn’t want to be a couple. She couldn’t handle the thought of what Edwin would do if they really did end up together, she really would lose any chance of getting her brother back.
But Mason....Mason made it so hard to stick to her guns on not falling back in love with him. He did everything, EVERYTHING right. He came to her appointments, brought her flowers, was patient when she wasn’t. It took about three weeks before a bad dream had her waddling out to the couch and tugging him to bed with her. After that they’d shared a bed every night.
She’d started nesting, cleaning the house, cooking dinner, baking things. It was what she had been raised to do if they were honest. She was raised to be a house wife, hormones just made it more. She liked to blame the hormones when it came to things like rearranging the living room while Mason was at work. Or giving into how damn much she wanted him when he’d come home from work one day looking far better than what should be legally allowed. After that it was hard to pretend they weren’t becoming something. Slowly she started to let go of the fight and embrace the idea of actually getting to be with the father of her child. Dorothea had decorated for Christmas while Mason was at work, when he got home they were meant to go to the winter festival. She was standing on the arm chair trying to put the last bit of garland up around thei--his bedroom door when he came in. She turned her head to look at him, wobbling a bit as she did. “You’re early! Noooo no no no. I’m not done. Go back outside!!” @masoncarr
