SH S02E01
Beware of much flailing behind the cut.
Just watched ep 1 and OMG I LOVED SO MANY THINGS ABOUT IT.
VICTOR! I LOVE HIM! Instant new favourite! The little eye rolls! The crisp accent! The suits! The way he moves around a room like he owns it! I LOVE HIM! GAH! Best new addition to the cast.
MAGNUS!!! Alec is behaving like a 12yo and Magnus is taking no shit. ILOOOOOVVVEEE IT! Adult communication! Setting limits! Calling out your partner! And then, on top of that, all the little things that Harry brings to Magnus. The little movements in his hands, the expressions on his face (seriously, he’s SO FUCKING EXPRESSIVE), THE UPGRADED MAGIC, the way he moves, the LOFT, GAH. GAAAAAAAAH.
Alec is waaaaaaaay fucked up, and I love how well Matt is making it come across. The tension in his body language, the thinly veiled panic, it’s all so good. I also liked that Alec came to apologise, and that he did it well. There’s definite hope for a continuation of a good, healthy relationship between these two, and I approve of that so much. gah!
One thing I really wonder about though and which I don’t like (and hope we get an explanation for, even though I don’t think we will): why did Magnus change his mind about helping Alec track Jace? There’s nothing in their conversation on the balcony that should change his mind, and yet, there they are at the end. Hmmm. I’m just going to headcanon in a missing scene where they sat down and talked about it more and came up with a way to make the tracking a lot safer. Because otherwise it makes NO SENSE. GAH, now that’s going to be grating at my brain until I (or someone else? :D?) fills in that gaping plot hole with some fic. (pretty please? :D??)
SIMON! So adorable! And Simon and Luke together = best thing. I really love their relationship. I really want to see more of them together, especially now that they’re both Downworlders. There’s SO MUCH POTENTIAL in the way they interact. Found family ftw.
Also, speaking of Luke, I never bought in S1 that he and Jocelyn weren’t a couple, and I buy it even less now. They’re a couple. Probably have been for most of Clary’s life. Headcanon firmly cemented. And I LOVE how he’s already firmly established as the alpha, to the point that all his wolves wait until he’s out of the room to confront Simon, BUT ALSO, that he’s STILL SO NEW that they still do confront Simon. GAH! I want more Jade Wolf scenes. And more pack dynamics.
IZZY was fab, but I feel like we’d seen all her scenes already in the teasers. So 100% fab, but not much new to flail about. MORE IZZY IN COMING EPS PLEASE!!!
Things I didn’t care too much about: the whole Fairchild/Morgenstern family, tbh. Valentine is beyond awful (but what else is new), Jocelyn potentially is a lot more like her husband than S1 let on (which is not really surprising either, though it does pose interesting questions concerning her relationship with Luke), Jace is in deep shit and getting abused and brainwashed left and right, and I would be a lot more interested in his story if I didn’t think that once he’s out of Valentine’s clutches, the show is going to have him bounce back to mental health like all those terrors never happened, which makes me wary of the whole plotline.
Also, the shapeshifting rune is going to get massively abused, I can just feel it. Mission Impossible, here we come. XDDDD
BUT! Those things aside, AWESOME AWESOME START OF S2. I’m so excited! I want all of it. NOW PLEASE AND THANK YOU.
