Trope and cliche, and conventions Idiocy, dunno how to put this.
You know the two tropes I hate seeing in fandom, especially in discussion about it.
Draco in Leather Pants, and Ron the Death Eater.
Sure it may not always be some ship war thing, but fucking hell, you can like a character and not force the idea that another character has to take their place as the bad ebul guy who is bad and ebul because they take away from the popularity of your character.
Third only to those is this reoccurring trend I’ve noticed since 2008 of what I’m going to call reality-ism, not realism, becausethere’s a difference. Realism is supposed to be, does this work within the game /novel/movie/TV series that it’s set in, Reality-ism is, This doesn’t work here in the real world.
Like just to use a certain Sci-Fi video game. The Realism is that Element 0 and the two Dextro-Amino Acid based groups have their quirks (make us psychic and have no nutritional value at best, with it being more common that there’s a fatal allergic reaction cross Amino Acid species). The Reality-ism is that Element 0 would be so unstable that if it was infused in a person they’d immediately die of being ionized, and said species would only taste a little sweet and would probably just have the same effect as glucose.
Doesn’t seem like much with the obvious Mass Effect problems, but tends to get into iidiocy like Steven Universe is fascist propaganda, your fanfic that is seen by maybe .0001% of the population is going to make pedophilia normal, or overstating and (sometimes deliberately) ommitting parts of the Jaws and/or CSI Efffects.
Actually you know what Draco and Ron, you take a tied secondd place, Reality-ism is my new most hated trope. with 4th being this whole idea that in order to be good Kids and YA stuff NEEDS to be at adult levels, and 5th being fuck, 99% of the problems that Homestuck has brought around (let’s just call it Homestuckism).
Can go more into Little Adults and Homestuckism if anybody cares.
