Is Master Sha-Fu from Juken Sentai Gekiranger furbait?
(NOTE: for clarification, his American counterpart is Master Mao from Power Rangers Jungle Fury)
Thanks for the clarification, ferg. This will help later when I get a similar submission, being the American counterpart. As for Master Sha-Fu, himself, I would say that he definitely is furrybait. The bar is pretty low on furbait characters and I think this one clears it. It’s great to see all the different animal designs on the sentai series and admire them individually. Just take a look at Master Sha-Fu
AU Jarrod/AJ. Once again, Dai Shi gets out-another version where it isn’t Jarrod’s fault. Bit of cursing.
Right about the time Casey was fumbling to get an angry Jarrod a towel, an already upset AJ was carrying a pile of them. The pile was so high that she tripped over Casey and towels went everywhere. One even landed on Jarrod’s head, and the snicker that Casey couldn’t suppress didn’t help Jarrod’s already sour mood-not that it wasn’t always sour these days. He turned to glare at the source of the interruption, who’d somehow landed on all fours-and found her crying. “....what are you crying for?”
“Stupid towels! Stupid people! Who cares if I want to do something besides training all the time! What business is it of everyone else? Stupid stupid stupid!” AJ was crying in earnest and muttering to herself.
“Um, you realize that we are here to train and-” Casey started to say.
“But I”m the master’s daughter that’s supposed to know everything and I don’t want to!!!” AJ wailed.
“I didn’t know Master Mao had a daughter,” Casey said. “But you don’t look like him.”
“There’s more than one master, idiot,” Jarrod snapped before turning to AJ. He couldn’t exactly be mad when she was bawling in front of him, though he didn’t quite understand why. “Why don’t you want to know everything?”
“Because my dad is an asshole and didn’t give me a choice, that’s why!” AJ sniffled.
“Um, I’m pretty sure you shouldn’t talk about a master like that-” Casey started to say.
“YOU DON’T KNOW HIM!” AJ shouted. An angry shark seemed to rise out of her and lash out Casey’s way, before his own tiger spirit came out. The two spirits bounced off each other before going back into their hosts.
“Enough! All three of you, come with me.” It was Master Mao that broke it up.
Jarrod glared at Casey one final time before begrudgingly helping AJ up. “Come on.” His voice was a little gentler though, and he maintained a light hold on her arm as they walked.
Their destination was a chamber in which Lily and Theo were already waiting. “Why’s the cub here?” Theo asked of Casey.”
“At least he had a chance to be one,” AJ muttered. Beside her, Jarrod frowned. What did she mean by that?
“Quiet!” It was then that Master Mao told them about Dai Shi, and how protectors were chosen to guard the box he was currently holding. It looked very old, and AJ couldn’t help wondering why they were keeping something so dangerous in a box, of all things.
And then the box started to shake. Everyone tensed, and Theo muttered, “I don’t think that’s supposed to happen...”
“No shit,” Jarrod muttered.
“You need to go! All of you!” Master Mao said. “Now!”
AJ didn’t like the idea of leaving Master Mao, someone who’d been kind to her. Apparently Casey, Lily, and Theo didn’t either. But if Dai Shi was that dangerous, wouldn’t he take them all out? Time seemed to slow down in her mind, but the thought process took a matter of seconds. “Jarrod, force those three out. Don’t hurt them, just send them out of here so they have a head start. You’ve got better focus than I do so you’re the best for it. I’ll help Master Mao.”
“You will not! You’ll go too, he’ll-” Master Mao was already protesting.
Jarrod might have protested about someone besides Master Mao telling him what to do, but he wasn’t a complete idiot. He also understood the gravity of the situation-and part of him was suddenly intrigued by a girl who’d gone from crying her eyes out to taking a leadership role in a matter of seconds. He called his lion spirit and focused. Despite their best efforts, Lily, Casey and Theo went flying out of the room-just seconds before Dai Shi came out of his box.
“Finally! After all these years, I’m free and I’m going to start by destroying you, old man!” Dai Shi was completely oblivious to Jarrod and AJ and focusing on what he thought was the greatest thread in the room.
“No you don’t, asshole!” AJ lashed out with her shark spirit, trying to push Dai Shi away.
“No AJ! He’s too strong!” Master Mao said.
“Foolish child!” Dai Shi turned his attention to AJ. “I’ll destroy you too!”
“Sorry, my father already started that process,” AJ drawled. “You know, I have mixed feelings about my spirit. But you know what I’ve learned?”
“What’s that?” Dai Shi asked.
“Never mess with a pissed off shark!” AJ poured in more power, sending a whirl of wind and water at the spirit.
“You can’t channel this much energy without risking yourself!” Jarrod chided her before sending out his own spirit, pouring in an equal amount of power.
Master Mao sent out his own spirit last, which was enough to turn the tide and send Dai Shi flying-to where, none of them new. “I told you to go, not-” He looked from AJ to Jarrod. “Never mind. There’s no time.” He handed Jarrod an envelope with an address on it. “Go to this address-your new master is there. With any luck, Casey, Lily, and Theo will make it there as well. The two of you are very brave-but also very foolish. “
“You don’t think I’d turn my back on someone who’d been kind to me, do you?” AJ said, smiling tiredly.
“What am I going to do with you....” Master Mao said. “Now you really need to go. There’s a chance he might come back.”
Jarrod nodded, and scooped up AJ, who immediately started protesting. “I can walk!”
“No you can’t-I can guarantee you’ve never used that much power before. Pissed off shark, huh?” He was laughing. “You’re cute.”
“I am not-wait, is cute a good thing?”
“I guess...if you’re a girl.”
“Boys can’t be cute?”
“We’re supposed to be handsome and fearless.”
“Jarrod, that’s so cliche.”
Jarrod made a face at that, and grinned a little. “Come on, let’s go find this new master.”
