There is only one drugstore liquid liner worth your time

I recent lunchtime mishap at work (someone microwaved fish) led me to taking a walk around the block, which inevitably led my to the nearest Sephora. In an effort to extend my midday stroll, I texted two friends for liquid liner recommendations – they both told me to turn right around and go to the nearest Duane Reade. 

They also happened to agree that Maybelline Master Precise is the best drugstore liquid liner. I had previously bought a different Maybelline liquid liner (which shall go unnamed because I am a lady) and been supremely disappointed. I have very watery eyes and an aversion to touchups, so I need a liner with serious staying power. They both insisted that Master Precise is *the* liquid liner, and these are not women afraid to spend on the finer things in life. Duane Reade has the same return policy as Sephora (return anything anytime) and it was under $10 so I figured I’d throw caution to the wind. 

I was not disappointed – I wouldn’t be writing this otherwise. I have no idea how I was so let down by one Maybelline eyeliner and so impressed by the product next to it, but it’s true. The felt applicator tip is pretty teeny, so it’s easy to draw a thin line. The color goes on opaque, and there was minimal smudging and flaking when used a primer. My only complaint is that it doesn’t come in brown.

'Maybelline New York, Master Precise By EyeStudio' Eyeliner. This is one of my favorite eyeliners! It has a felt tip, and is truly black. I’m not sure what color base is used, but I defiantly don’t think it’s brown because it’s darker than any brown based liner I’ve ever used. Application is really easy, my only problem is that when I hold it from an angle the larger part of the tip touches my eyelid and leaves a big black dot. It goes on smooth, no dotted line like some liners. It’s not a very forgiving liner, once you make a mistake it’s difficult to remove, and I usually find myself having to redo that spot all over. That could just be me though. Not an expert at applying liner lol. Over all I think this is a really good starting out/ practice, liquid liner. I’ve had this for around a month and it’s not drying out any. I paid around 12 dollars for this and I would say it’s worth it. I’ll defiantly be buying it again.

Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Liner

Hi all!

The first drugstore makeup chosen is the liquid liner named Master Precise from Maybelline. I have been using this product since the first time I moved to Australia in late July this year. So, it has been almost 3 months that I'm using this product.

Why liquid liner? It always depends on one to choose between several types of liner. There are pencil liner, brush liner, and liquid liner. I have tried all of them, and I found the most suitable one for me is the liquid one. I always use liquid liner for the most of eyelid makeup and also pencil liner to line the water line of my eyes. It will all make sense when you try them yourself. I tried using brush liner before and many people found it as the most easier to use, but not for me. I haven't been achieving a success thin and normal looking line by using the brush one. Then again, it really depends on oneself to choose the liner which suitable for their using.

Why did I change to Master Precise? I used to use this liquid liner from Korean brand named CLEO, which was a special order as well when I was in Indonesia. So, I know there would be no chance of getting that product here, in Australia. I went to the nearest drugstore to my current house and found this adorable pen looking liquid liner in Maybelline stall. There's a time when you get a dilemma of buying something or not, especially when the currency of the new place you're living is much higher than your home country. But Master Precise gave a great impression by highlighting its features, such as shaped as a pen and looking easy to use. The next thing I know I found myself buying the product in the cashier.

Price? $13.95 AUD

What it has? Unlike normal liquid liner, the title of this product says it all! Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Liner has a body like a pen or a marker, and it is available in black colour only (as I tried to find some other colours for this product, but I couldn't), and it has a amazingly thin tip.

What it does? From the structure of this product, it actually allows to hold the liquid liner like when you hold a normal marker. And with the really thin tip, it lets you to draw a line easier, as well as minimising mistakes when you stroke a line on your eyelid.

Extras? It is a waterproof product, so make sure to clean up after a day use. It can stay the whole day without smudging to the corner of the eyes and it gives you a bold look from its thick colour.

So that's the first review of a drugstore product that I actually use on daily-basis. All the review I wrote came from my own experience of using the product, so I won't lie to you about it. Hope it helps in some ways and don't forget to check out my other reviews x

Maybelline Liquid Eyeliner Comparison

I'm a big fan of liquid eyeliners, especially the Maybelline ones, because I find that they stay put all day on my oily eyelids and doesn't transfer to below my eyes unlike the normal pencil eyeliners. I also find that liquid eyeliner is the quickest and easiest to apply, especially if you want a bold line and don't have a lot of time in the morning like I do. Mind you, it did take me a while to perfect and quicken my liquid-lining skills, but trust me, people will be staring into your eyes in no time when you've learnt to master this skill.

So today, I've got three Maybelline liquid eyeliners and my thoughts and experiences with each.

(Top-Bottom) Line Stiletto, Master Precise and Hyper Glossy

Line Stiletto

Line Stiletto (LS) was the second liquid liner I got and is the one I've been using the longest. I'm sad to say though, I don't think they sell this anymore in Australia which is such a shame as I think it is the best out of the three. LS has a flexible but still firm felt tip which makes application really easy. It is budge-proof and in some sense waterproof as well where if you cry or water is present, it won't smudge the liner straight away, but you can still easily remove it with water with a few scrubs.

Master Precise

Master Precise (MP) is marketed to be the "sharpest point" and "ultimate precision liquid liner" as said so on their website - and I totally agree! Unlike the LS, the MP is a brush tip liner which when used, feels exactly like you're using a pen. You hold it like you'll hold a pen and then line your eyes. Out of the three, it is definitely the easiest to use, so if you're just a beginner, I'd recommend this one over the others. I do like the MP, but it isn't as dark as the other ones and not as glossy either as it leaves a sort of matte finish. It is a very good liner and I would recommend it but for my personal taste, I just love the look of a glossy line so I don't find myself reaching for this as much.

Hyper Glossy

Hyper Glossy (HG) really is the glossiest liquid liner I own. The tip is a very thin brush, a lot like nail polish striper and out of the three is the hardest to use and get used to. However, it is the shiniest liner I've used and for the past two weeks or so, it has been the one I've been using the most because it is just so damn glossy! The one complaint I have is that the tip is just a bit too thin for my liking because I like doing a wing and it's a pain to fill in. However, it does give you the thinnest of lines similar to the MP.

You can see that the MP isn't as pigmented as the two others and isn't as glossy.

Swatches at 1.37am (4 hours later with doing light housework + water involves) where I've "worn" it around for a bit.

On my hand, it seems that the LS has worn away quite a bit but the MP and HG haven't. On your eyes though, all of these will last me the entire day with days where I've worn makeup from 7am to about midnight and it doesn't fade or budge at all.

Conclusion

Liquid liners shouldn't be scary and once you learn and practise how to use them, you probably won't go back to pencil liner! From my experiences, Maybelline makes the best liquid liners so if you have to get one, then try any from that brand. For beginners I would recommend the Master Precise, for people who love a good glossy line, I'd say try the Hyper Glossy and if you can get a hold of it, the Line Stilleto will become your best friend - and you'll become mine if you tell me where you found it ;) So, next time you go shopping, get yourself a liquid liner and remember tell me if you love it or your experiences with liquid liner!
