Best of 2017-Best of the Best
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 2012
My pick for best of best goes to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012. Not just because it’s the last time I can ever chose this series but because it pretty much dictated my life in 2017. I mean, come on…I dedicated months to making a cosplay for it.
Also, many of my fanfic reading time went to finding the right Turtle fic (no turcest please…they’re brothers, damn it) and it made me start reading the TMNT comic because sure…I really need more comics to read. Now, the comics aren’t the same thing but I started to read them because the series just made me want more turtles.
The series itself just found a way into my heart and I honestly don’t know how. I just love that every character is a rounded out character. They all have layers to them and not just 2 dimensional. Even the villains themselves showed that they weren’t just purely bad for the sake of being bad. They had a personally and a backstory and could have their own levels of morally and limitations. They could feel heart break and loyalty. The turtles also had their own character growths. They weren’t static; the turtles they were at the end were not the same as they were at the beginning. Leo grew confidence, became a leader, and became authoritative. Raph learned patience, learned that being outwardly caring was not a bad thing, learned to listen. Mikey matured, he is and will always be Mikey but he finally understood just how skilled he actually is and the other finally realized that should take him seriously. Donnie, also learned patience and to not internalize your feelings, and to stop bugging April.
The ending of season 4 wrapped up the series’ main storyline perfectly in a very bittersweet way. It ended with Shredder finally being defeated unfortunately; it was just too late for Master Splinter. Then, in the season 5 we were able to have a little fun with the different story arcs that made for a good send off. It gave us little stories of things that we always wanted the turtles to do. Ghostbusters parody nice, Usagi is here sweet, monsters alright, 1987 turtles hell yeah. Then it ended in a depressing arc of depression…so not so sure about that…but anyways…my pick for best of best is TMNT 2012 because it ended up meaning so much more to me then it probably should have and Master Splinter dying made me cry more then it probably should have. I’ll really miss this show. It’s just sad since I started it a bit. Either way, it was a wild ride.
