been reading the MasterHarper of Pern and so far the only character flaw I can find in Robinton is that he's a child. That's it, he's a prodigy, but he's not arrogant, his dad hates him, but it's fine cause everyone else literally loves him so much, he's great at everything– except fishing.

His character flaws are being a bad fisherman and being too young.

I don't hate him, but I do hate that a whole book was written about him and I don't even get to see any character growth for him. I'm just watching this miniature musician grow up.

Robinton here is my favorite character! Not only is he an incredible musician and composer, he's also a really stand up human being. Great teacher, good friend, my husband ... Oops did I say that aloud lol.

In my journey of reading the pern books I never read (Dragonseye, Masterharper, Skies, Nerilka, and I only read Moreta once) I just finished Masterharper!

There was a lot about it that was meh but honestly I thoroughly enjoyed it. I suppose that I shouldn’t be surprised that Anne’s prose wouldn’t fail to engage me, and that despite the fact that not much happened I was happily along for the ride. Or at least I was for the large middle section between it being fully Robinton’s pov and the very end that was just retelling dragonflight. Like yeah, I’ll hear about various events in Robinton’s life, why not. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t enjoy that. And I do think that it’s pretty clear that this book is pretty late in her career and her prose writing has developed a LOT since dragonflight, and it’s much more elegant and enjoyable to read.

There's something so extremely emotional about Ramoth and Mnementh earnestly pleading and begging Robinton to not die. That they won't let him die because he's needed and he's loved. These dragons, bonded to their humans, begging a fellow human despite it being established that dragons generally only talk to their own humans unless it's important

there was a typo in this book I was reading and it changed my favorite characters pronouns to she. and you know what, it's pride month, so I am so proud of you Masterharper Robinton for embracing your queerness and telling people you use he/she pronouns. love is love

“I wasn’t aware you thought,” Robinton remarked quietly.

okay, there are many questionable moments in Dragonflight of course but there's also Masterharper Robinton saying "hold my wine" and absolutely tearing into the Lord Holders and Mastercrafters about their treatment of the dragons and weyrs and Harpers and it's so satisfying

then he tells you to give his wine back and maybe just refill it while you're at it, please and thank you!

12 day Christmas: day 3: masterharper robinton I read the harper hall books this year and masterharper is hands down my favorite. He quickly became one if my favorite characters of all time, actually! I just want to hug him and fix him a sandwich and make him take a nap for once before he works himself to death.
