Paul Huson - Mastering Witchcraft - Corgi - 1972
Hello! First of all, thanks for your time. I've recently finished Huson's Mastering Witchcraft and I'd like to try Vassago's Invocation but I've zero to little experience with this kind of operations. If you don't mind, could give me some tips or even better if it's possible, suggest me an easier, less perilous one? Thank you again, I really enjoy your blog.
I am going to be honest, I have never performed any goetic work, which this still is even if Huson basically deviated entirely from regular goetic procedure in that ritual.
I would suggest: figure out exactly what you want to get from doing this, and if there any other way you can accomplish that goal without doing a ritual that makes you this nervous? I myself am a big fan of Drawing Spirits Into Crystals and have found it very effective, and you might be more comfortable starting with a comparatively low-risk celestial entity before trying out a conjugation with an infernal one (maybe not Samael or Cassiel, but Sachiel seems nice). If you feel that only Vassago can do, then do the conjugation exactly as Huson describes and ensure to do a full and proper banishing afterward, making sure not to omit the license to depart before closing up.
Ultimately at the end of the day what you do is up to you, and I can't give you permission to proceed or abstain from trying out the Vassago conjugation. If you want to do it than do it, and if so please let us know how it goes - I've been rather curious about it myself. I did a bit of investigation a while ago and found almost no records of people's experience with that ritual, which I thought was very strange considering how popular Mastering Witchcraft is.
Necromancy Incense
This incense recipe is taken from Paul Hudson’s Mastering Witchcraft. It is to be used when performing necromancy.
“3 parts wormwood herb (finely reduced) 2 parts good-quality, resinous church incense 2 parts gum mastic 3 parts dittany of Crete (finely reduced) 1/2 part pure olive oil 1/2 part wine 1/2 part honey A few drops of the operator's blood
Blend the ingredients together and let stand overnight. The resultant incense should be of a fairly solid, crumbly consistency, but if it turns out too liquid, add extra dittany and wormwood until the right, dryish texture is reached.”
These two books by Paul Huson, are two classic works that have been around since the nineteen seventies. Not influenced by todays neo-modern new age mainstream witchcraft. The books provide the most in-depth details to beginning a practice in traditional witchcraft, free from the trappings of new age spirituality. Both of these books are quintessential for traditional a witch's practice. Mastering herbalism is just as informative, I'll be doing more in depth analyses soon!
Consecration of my shiny new set of Mars pentacles (day and hour of Mars, plus a waning Moon, which I feel is very helpful for the sort of malefic work these pentacles are used for) plus a little extra spellwork.
Huson's Mars incense for works of wrath and chastisement smells vile, by the way.
I had Holst's 'Mars, the Bringer of War' playing on repeat while I did the working and it ended just as I finished the ritual and closed the Circle. I love when stuff like that happens.
Hi,
What do you think of the initiation method given in the first chapter of Paul Huson's 'Mastering Witchcraft'?
I haven't got the book to hand, but if memory serves it is the visualising of being released from shackles and reciting the lords prayer backwards.
Meh.
Did it affect me in my young teen years when I rejected Christianity? Yes, most definitely. It felt powerful to commit such a transgression and subversion of faith.
Would it phase me now? Probably not.
Do I view it as an initiation? Not really.
Huson's book is a strange one and not one I personally recommend these days. I know others do, but it never really spoke to me as it has done for others.
Thoughts, Ideas, and Stirrings
Thoughts, Ideas, and Stirrings
Has it really been a year? How the time slips away. There was a period there where I managed to post daily and maintain some sort of project. While I confess I did indeed complete the Roderick text, my desire and ability to post about it simply went away. The tasks seemed to grow more personal and directly relevant to events in my life toward the end of the project. In some ways, I regard the…

On the Reasons for Casting Circle
On the Reasons for Casting Circle
There are myriad reasons given for the use of magic circles in the ritual practices of the West, and almost all of them have been carried into various branches of the (incredibly diverse) Craft.
Most commonly we see the circle touted as a “place between the worlds”, a reason frequently cited by devotional witches who view it a a vehicle for bringing themselves closer to their gods (a…
