@mastermicd sent "you can tell me, or we can just sit here." from heather brooks, to one of your pitt muses!
it's been a long time since a case has properly rattled dana. however, today's had come pretty damn close. sitting on one of the waiting gurney's in the ambulance bay, she pats the spot next to her for heather to join her. normally, she can hold it in, she lets it out on the drive home from work and is carefree as she can be when she walks in the front door of her house.
fiddling with the chain of her necklace, she tucks the pendant back in under her scrubs. "had a girl come through earlier. my daughter's age, didn't make it." she pauses, fingers tightening around the edge of the thin excuse for a mattress on the gurney. in the forefront of her mind, she can still see the girl's face. "i've seen plenty of kids come through this place, but i dunno. she was wearing a shirt my girl's got. had to cut it off of her myself. just one of those days, i guess. they happen to the best of us."
is that why she's telling heather now? for when it happens to her? that even dana isn't impenetrable to those feelings? "i'll be fine. just needed a minute. bit of fresh air before the next one comes in."
