Bernie Wrightson, the late “Master of the Macabre,” was born on this day in 1948. Wrightson was one of the greatest illustrators to work in the comics medium, and indeed any medium. Here are some prints published as a portfolio by Christopher Enterprises in 1976. You may recognize the first, “Siegfried,” as the cover of our fifth issue, from December 1977, and the second here, “Counsel to a Minion,” as the back cover art from the October 1977 issue. The others are “Visitor,” “Breakfast,” “Change,” “Loggerhead,” “Hunter,” “Waiting,” “Freaks,” “Mementos,” and “Taking No Chances.” Despite his love of disturbing subject matter, Bernie the man was truly one of the nicest guys in the comics industry. We and all who knew him were saddened by his death in 2017 at the young age of 68. . #berniewrightson #berniwrightson #masterofthemacabre #horror #horrorart #heavymetal #heavymetalmagazine https://www.instagram.com/p/CVinf4OlWNo/?utm_medium=tumblr
