We miss ol’ Bernie Wrightson. He would have turned 72 today. Heavy Metal cover artist, creator of Captain Sternn, co-creator of Swamp Thing, illustrator of Stephen King and Mary Shelley — and generally acclaimed as Master of the Macabre. Farewell to two amazing artists! One of the original rockers and one of my favorite illustrators. Bernie Wrightson's Frankenstein will always stand out in my collection as one of the all time greats.

A somber nod to Bernie Wrightson, who would have turned 69 years old today. Wrightson, the "Master of the Macabre," was famed for his work on horror comics, Swamp Thing, and illustration projects like his adaptation of Frankenstein. He was also a Heavy Metal contributor, and the creator of Captain Sternn and Hanover Fiste, who were both featured in our 1981 move. Wrightson died earlier this year, but the body of work he left behind will be enjoyed for generations to come.
