Spook Of The Day #220 • The Matagots aka black cats who are magic but only if you give them food
Within the realm of Southern French oral folklore is the legendary creature known as the matagot.
Often a black cat, these spirits have powers that can be evil or bring wealth to a family (depending on how well you feed the cat).
If you encounter one, lure it towards you with a fresh chicken, carry it home without looking back, and give the cat the first mouthful of food at every meal.
If you follow these rules, the cat will provide you with a gold coin everyday. However, you must not keep the cat for long. If you do whilst you are dying, it’ll cause a long, agonising death.
Interestingly enough, matagots aren’t always cats. They can be rats, foxes, dogs - and cows.
