Nearly 1,000 Experts Call for Withdrawal of UGC’s 2025 Draft Mathematics Curriculum
A group of nearly 1,000 mathematicians, researchers, educators, and graduate students have signed a petition urging the University Grants Commission (UGC) to withdraw its 2025 draft curriculum for undergraduate Mathematics (B.Sc./B.A.), calling it "gravely defective."
According to the petition, the proposed curriculum fails to adequately prepare students for advanced studies such as M.Sc., Ph.D., or careers in industry and research.
The experts argue that the current draft lacks academic depth and fails to reflect the rigor and progression required in modern mathematics education. They are demanding the formation of a new committee of qualified mathematicians and experienced undergraduate teachers to redesign the curriculum from the ground up.
The academic community warns that if implemented, the draft curriculum could severely impact the future of mathematics education and undermine the global competitiveness of Indian graduates.
