Fun at work last week creating Romneya coulteri (Matilija poppy) flower arrangements with paper flowers and live foliage. These were used as center pieces for a celebration of our many fantastic volunteers here at @rsabg - this place would be impoverished without them! The stunning beauty of Romneya coulteri is a perfect reflection of the vibrancy the volunteers bring to their work. Locking myself out of the house was not one of my brightest moments! Not checking all the outside doors before calling a locksmith might have been even worse. I kind of wish I hadn’t written about that in my Hobonichi. It’s good to laugh at yourself every now and again, right?

I was unfamiliar with matilija poppies until I saw them on Descanso’s Instagram. I’m so glad I saw them in person! These flowers are huge and beautiful. They are sometimes referred to as “sunny side up” or “fried egg” poppies, and it’s easy to see why.

the hardest part about drawing for me is getting the mental energy to start. ive been meaning to pick it up again and practice so that i can get better, but it seems the only time i get that will power is at 2am. 😐
