matmarrash replied to your photoset: Fumed Silica for Platinum/Palladium Printing ...
Im a big fan of the added punch the fumed silica adds to the print. If you ever want to see a little more DMax, you should give carbon transfer a try. ;)
It's funny you mention that, I was going to tweet you about that the other day. I totally drooled all over my keyboard a few weeks back watching your carbon transfer demo vids (not to mention Jim Fitzgerald's excellent walkthrough). My only worries with carbon is either I need to pay a Canadian-whipping-boy premium on shipping ($45 for $39 worth of tissue) from Bostick and Sullivan or give my partner a heart-attack when she sees our kitchen after my first attempts at pouring my own glop. I've already given myself a heart attack seeing the $150 shipping and hazmat fee for full wet-plate kit, not sure I could survive another.
The question I was going to ask over twitter is what your opinion would be on how friendly the process is for small / dual-purpose spaces. I'm living and printing out of a two-bedroom downtown apartment and don't currently have access to a traditional darkroom. My coating station is a galley-kitchen counter, my darkroom and processing area is a tiny bathroom, and my digital negs and exposure station is the bulk of our increasing poorly-named "guest bedroom".
I'm excited to give it a try, just not sure whether I can feasibly do all the steps in my current space. If I do manage to dive in, it's still 2-3 paydays away minimum. The last couple months have been killer already stocking up on supplies for collodion. But I'm very curious as to your opinion on the feasibility side. At least with wet plate I can go pour (and even shoot) on the balcony. ;-)
