Kathrine Foxhem: take the shot

Cause I'm not sleeping until I'm done writing this!!

The final backstory related theory for fifsmp. And what better way to do it than with the most private character in the roster! Where i am literally only working from one Spotify Playlist and asks people have sent to cc!Deryn.

Here's all we know about good old fif!Kathrine:

-A hunter in order to sell animal hides

-has a severed relationship with mother due to connection to father

-lots of younger siblings (four younger sisters, all being at least over the age of 20)

-doesn't give a crap about items, and isn't creative

This one is gonna be fun!

Kathrine Foxhem told himself he was ontop of the world, they had an itchy trigger finger and were ready to let the bullet fly. It was moments like those that gave her a sick sense of comfort.

A distraction.

Shot, after shot, after shot. It was all for business, but also for the thrill. It's what they could use as proof of just how much of a man he was, even if it was in an odder light in the eyes of others. In the eyes of family.

In the eyes of their father.

One day, a hunt crossed her desk that sparked as odd. It turned heads, this one. Not in a good way. This one was gonna need a little too much..thrill. He had no choice, to ask her father for a bit of a boost.

Train tickets, but also a little something else. Respect. If this man were to take the target off of their back and send them off with at least some respect towards their identity, things could go smoother.

So, with a ticket in one hand and a cigarette in the other, Kathrine Foxhem set off.

To get the job done.

I had to get a little creative with this one due to lack of information, but I think I was able to piece something pretty promising together.

Now, is this an excuse for me to yap about my theory/headcanon of Kathrine being a hunter after fif!Sage?

Yes. Definitely. But still.

In fif!Kathrine's character teaser (yay), we hear them talking to their father about a target on their back and for the man before them to choose between a dead daughter or an alive son. This is what leads me to believe that 1)the target itself is what caused them to leave town, and 2)he needed to tie up that loose end before he left, hence the sudden timing with the request of a decision of sorts. To accept them, or let them go knowing the mistake made.

Now, what could this target in their back be?

As a hunter, you're expected to take down a basic creature, but a person? Well, that might attract some eyes where they don't belong.

Who could this person be?

Sage.

THE FOX IMAGERY IS RIGHT THERE WITH SAGE AND THEN THE DEAD FOX SCARF/PELT FOR KATHRINE THE VISUAL EVIDENCE HAS ME IN A CHOKEHOLD AAAA—

Anyway. That is beyond the point at hand.

Why couldn't they just give up the hit?

Well, we are back at it with flower language! (Credits to @astressedlittlejaybird for figuring this out! This is the last time I tag u dude I swear!!) Along Mr Foxhem's design reveal portrait we are presented with orange lilies, a flower that represents pride/arrogance, and hatred. The arrogance could be not wanting to back down from the job and look like a coward, and the hatred could be towards those around them who won't respect who they are.

I'll give you more with that, if we take a look at the official Playlist for Kathrine Foxhem, we get the following songs that fit the emtotion of hatred or injustice: Brutus, Labor, and seventeen (to name a few). Fif!Kathrine feels wronged by the system and those around them due to so much pain to the point where violence feels like the only way for them to prove themself to be worthy of their respect.

We were also told that Kathrine's deadly sin is..PRIDE!

Along with a shiny dash of insecurity as his flaw.

Yeah, no, this one is not backing down now.

Ian Francis is contributing to my forever going insanity /silly

Grab some popcorn and allow me to interrogate this wonderful little guy that made me question my eyesight

What we already know about fif!Ian:

-Jazz singer

-doesn't like forest (??)

-sees the good in everyone

-believes that good intentions triumph over the deed(hmm sounds kinda vampire..who said that??)

-deadly sin of wrath (someone pick me up im scared-)

Now, fif!Ian is the second biggest enigmatic character if the group—the first being Kathrine—as much of their character backstory wise hasn't been so clear. Unlike Sage, who we know is a runaway, and Florence, who we know wanted to run away with someone.

We really don't know much of fif!Ian's origins, but I will try to stick something together anyway.

Ian Francis was a well liked jazz singer at a local club, spending her night singing away till he couldn't keep a grip on the mic anymore. They had a fair amount of trust in the owner of the club, a close friend of their's that made sure to keep her housed and fed.

One day he got a bit too heated, had to leave the club for the night to settle back down. The forest seemed like a calm place to lean back.

But something went wrong.

Something that changed fif!Ian. The once kind hearted showtimer, suddenly understood the need for cruelty for cause of the greater good.

Because of this revelation they decided to skip town, turn over a new page in their book in the next joint to watch her stride on by.

A new place where her new methods would shine in the spotlight..

Symbolism is quite scarce for fif!Ian. The whole jazz club part if the backstory was taken straight from a singular ask from earlier this month.

On fif!Ian's design reveal picture, the flowers covering the border are called begonias (more credit to @astressedlittlejaybird for being so good at Victorian flower language as a Victorian history nerd u r amazing) and they represent misfortune.

Now, whether the misfortune surrounding fif!Ian has happened or is yet to come, is in more neutral territory. Whatever happened in the forest—will get into that, gimme a minute—could count as the misfortune, but perhaps the future holds the same instance for fif!Ian to confront said trauma..only to succumb to in anger? Or swayed judgement?

As for why I believe the forest is responsible for Ian Francis' whole "it is the intention not the deed that counts" mentality is straight from the character teaser (I will use these every time). In said teaser, fif!Ian warns that the forest will change you. It will, maybe, warp your morality, perchance?

In my last Ian Francis theory I proposed that the traumatic incident had to do with them being turned into a vampire (only for that mislooked detail on Sage Buck's portrait to..defeat me), but I have a better idea..

What if the reason Ian Francis's sin is wrath, the reason why her morals are about intention and all, is because he was attacked by a vampire in the forest, only to fight their way out and rationalizing a new moral code to make up for the violence committed in the name of self defense.

This could be a way for him to internally say "I didn't want to hurt them, as I know they are good deep down, but I was defending myself out of need of protection, so it is fine if I hurt them."

Also apparently they are compared to squirrels slightly by cc!Ian, but I wasn't sure what to do with that exactly other than possibly connect her to possessiveness over material attachments after realizing that his time with said items can be cut short by danger. Hey, maybe that's why they carry their microphone around.

YOU WANTED A THEORY AND YOU GOT IT

I'm figuring out fif!Sage's backstory in one take and I might go insane.

To start things off, what do we know about fif!Sage's character by now?

-He is the youngest person in the universe

-they are associated with deer(perhaps..bucks..)and foxes

-The little guy is trans..in the year 1920. Oh this poor boy-

-and he is definitely being hunted..by a hunter?..if you will

Alright, but in all seriousness, I feel like I have a good chunk of fif!Sage's backstory/character figured out.

Here is my take on their backstory before I present the evidence:

Sage Buck came out to his family and/or had to leave them due to their identity. My guess is, based on his scratched up appearance in the design and only having one bag of belongings that it was in hurry—almost in the way a deer quickly flees from danger cough cough..

Timeline wise, I feel like fif!Sage ran/left very soon after cutting his hair, being caught in some kind of altercation for it and running as a result.

After leaving, they feel like they are being watched, followed—those fox like traits coming in here hehe—and realize he shouldn't stay in town/the city(?) any longer.

Going on the train is a way for him to find safety again, a new beginning, and a sense of tranquility.

..ALSO THE HUNTER IS DEFINITELY KATHRINE!

EVIDENCE TIME!!! +extra speculation

First off, the fawn in itself represents new beginnings, rebirth. The very thing I suspect fif!Sage is searching for while running but also is experiencing through his gender identity for possibly the first time in public.

We also got an answered ask a little while back from cc!Sage saying fif!Sage's favorite plant is the Blue Violet.

This could be dismissed as a random character preference, but I feel like that isn't the case, as victorian flower language has made appearances in the lore before (credits to @astressedlittlejaybird for being the one to mainly interpret the flowers that appear on the fifsmp blog and tell all of us that they could mean something!!)

So, what does the Blue Violet represent?

They traditionally mean: faithfulness, trust, devotion, and tranquility.

The very things Sage Buck has been denied.

Their family isn't faithful enough toward them to respect his life choices and self, said family lacks the devotion to truly try to understand fif!Sage, nor the trust to allow them to figure himself out, and because of all of this they steal all the tranquility from his life.

(Sage seems to be very jumpy now that he is on the run, hence the connection to deer which are very cautious animals, but also angry and observant to the world around them which could connect to foxes who can be sometimes aggressive if needed and are very aware of surroundings as well)

Next, with the whole being hunted thing, I have mentioned in an ask before about the possibility of fif!Kathrine being who is tracking down Sage Buck.

In fif!Sage's teaser (Mikey mentions the teasers?!?!? Again?!??!) they specifically ask themselves why someone can't just leave him alone (feeding into the whole being hunted theory in the first place and not just being some runaway)

We know how Sage Buck is associated with foxes, right..?

Right?

Well...

GUESS WHOSE DEISGN FEATURES THEM WEARING A FOX PELT!!!???!

ALSO WE HAVE BEEN WARNED ABOUT KATHRINE AND SAGE'S CHARACTER DYNAMICS SO MANY TIMES THAT I AM SCARED

The Tragedy of Florence Clementine

I now officially have a name to live up to in the fifsmp discord/community (they straight up named me matpat mikey as my server display im not even kidding-)

So, sit back and relax..

..unless you're @tabbykai. I'm about to dissect your character like the little specimen they are /pos /silly

Similar to the fif!Sage theory, let me lay out what is already certain about fif!Florence:

-Whitepine Ivory coded

-greatest sin is envy (im scared)

-apparently has a 'let's runaway together' tragedy (based on a reblog on the official blog that was then tagged with fif!Florence..)

-is v!Pyro coded?

..So we don't know much about this one.

Well, despite that fact, I still have my speculations on what led fif!Florence to the train, just like the others.

Florence Clementine wasn't happy where she was at, or at least, a specific part of where they resided. The only thing they could connect to was the wilderness around her. There was someone they knew at this place. Someone who they trusted, and wished to explore the world with. To escape with, to escape the feeling of being so vulnerable with.

Only, that never happened.

Now she questions if that person was truly there for them, or was just a figment of their delusions.

(So..I would be lying if I didn't say I already know some Florence stuff that I shall not reveal..heh)

Not much to work with, but I got this!!

The idea that perhaps Florence isn't too fond of where they are from came from the whole implied idea of her wanting to run away with someone. The only reason I can think of that could say why that would be needed is that this place wasn't meant for them.

Now, as for the person they wanted to run away with...Florence believes she disappointed them in someway, which could be why the running plan ended in tragedy. (Again credits to @astressedlittlejaybird for figuring out the flower language) The flowers on Florence's design reveal mean disappointment and rejection, bringing up the possibility that either the person at hand is disappointed in Florence and rejected them...

Or..

Just, maybe..

One is disappointed while the other rejected.

Do we know which one is which?

Maybe we do, maybe we don't.

ANYWAY OTHER SYMBOLISM TIME!!

On an answered ask on July 4th of 2026, cc!Jester made a one off comment saying that Florence is a "sheltered lamb rabbit thing"..HMMMM

It's possible that this could mean that Florence's lack of recollection ("a girl who forgets more than she remembers") was preyed upon at some point, as lambs are usually used in media to depict some sort of victim of manipulation or foul play—hence the term lamb to the slaughter. It is also likely that fif!Florence was kept away from what they wanted in life, since lambs are technically animals a farm would keep in some kinda containmet or something. However, the rabbit aspect supports the desire to run away as rabbits are more fearful animals and hand a tendency to run at the slightest change in environment.

We are also told in one answered ask on the official fifsmp blog that Florence's ready sin is envy. It is possible that this friend of their's was much more free than herself. Perhaps there was jealousy in their relationship that could explain why perhaps one may be disappointed in theother, either for the felt envy or for not living up to the other's envy/percieved greatness of them.

Also, just a mini theory, on another ask for cc!Jester about fif!Florence, they answered in a crossed out text about the character's least favorite food being blood. It is possible that since it is implied Florence lived near a forest area, that vampires were a looming threat or average part of their day to day life before the events of the story.

Because of this, I feel like the starting vampire—cough cough ik what u r fif!Ian cough cough—will sense this about Florence and feel more comfortable about perhaps telling them about their inner self. This could either go well or horrible, depending on what Florence's actual experience with vampires actually was, which i cannot exactly confirm at the moment..cough.
