Back in the astral cult, Angel and Selene were matched together when they were tweens, assigned each a sun and a moon role. Then they bound their magic to their gems, making their powers only available during the day, or during the night.

The matchmaking system is described as a kind of soulmate finding ritual, nobody knows it's actually just the leaders' decision. The reason they paired the two was because Angel (Helia formerly) was the most faithful and hardworking member of her age at the time, and Selene was the most troublesome one.

So it was basically like assigning the seats to the suckup and the rebellious kid in the class next to each other.

Even after escaping, Angel keeps this mindset, feeling responsible for the behaviour of others, specially those she cares about, and has this need to help with other's problems to prove herself a good person/friend. It's both a self image and self worth issue.

Fantasy Fam Side characters

I'm dumping loose drawings of the story side characters and putting them all in one post, and talk a bit about each of them.

I renamed Dahlia Juno and made her the leader of the cult. She's not their mother anymore but acts like one to the girls + all the other girls there. She treats Angel like the golden child to make her do what she wants. She's not as kind to Selene.

Marcel is no longer her dad, but one of the many kind townspeople Angel makes friends with along her journey with Isaac. He's still a tailor and he's the one to make her green dress :]

Edward is the human brothers' father and he's scary and abusive as he's always been. He's a general making his oldest son (or in his eyes, only son) follow his footsteps in the military

This is Stanley, he's new. You've already seen him in a previous comic. He's the dad/general's petty advisor that no one takes seriously. Appreciate my friend drawing him as Cuphead Stickler

I don't have many ideas/drawings for the brothers' mom, Beatrice, but I intend to give her a more active role in the story hehe

🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?

Hahaaa. Well.

ORIGINALLY they were my takes on the Clawthorne ancestor from toh (Evelyn) and uh. The Collector. The tall figure from the Owl Beast's flashback. They were sisters and I made them a nuclear family with a mother and a father.

As for their backstory in the fantasy fam story, they are inspired by Adora and Catra, and their upbringing in the Horde. And how they differently reacted to their brainwashing while they were there. But of course there are some differences.

Angel was treated like the golden child and she blindly believed what the cult taught her, so much so that once she's out she tries indoctrinating the people she cares about with their beliefs. It takes her a while to question them.

Selene on the other hand was not treated kindly. She was continuously made aware that she didn't fit in with the rest of the girls there and that she was a bad influence. So when she got out she decided to detach herself from it completely and present herself the total opposite of how she was "supposed" to be.

Also I brought back the mother I had made for them, who is now Juno and she's not their biological mom but a mother like figure to them. ... A very messed up one. She's the Shadow Weaver lmao
