WHAT IS THIS: This was my thesis film for School of Visual Arts from 2004. A mockumentary about a bad cartoonist.
This is the original 37 minute version, though a tighter 30 min version with improved sound/color/timing exists but remains unfinished. I know it's a bit long for a standard youtube video, but we really packed this thing with tons of jokes and details. Freeze frame some parts!
PLOT: Tim Warner, the cartoonist of a mediocre daily newspaper comic strip "The Silver Lining" is celebrated by this documentary, until things turn upside down for him when unexpected competition on the comics page arrives in the form of the cynical political strip "Sitting Ducks."
MAKING OF: This was a huge undertaking for me, and everyone involved did such amazing, hilarious, detailed work. James Jajac cowrote and outlined the movie with me, and stars as Tim Warner, and created almost all of the artwork and props throughout. Dave Fox plays Lance Gold, developed the character and also drew all the artwork of Gold's.
Everyone improvised their own dialogue and essentially created their own character, along with suggestions and direction from me.
Sam Brown (Whitest Kids U Know) plays Brian the Squiggles Maniac, the biggest fan ever of Squiggles the cat.
Emily Felger plays the fan who speaks through her puppets.
Matt Koff (The Daily Show, Comedy Central) plays Professor Nougat, the foremost expert on The Silver Lining.
Featuring many cameos from friends and family and total strangers around the neighborhood.
Berkeley Breathed, creator of Bloom County did a cameo for us, which was a huge thrill for me.
Directed, edited, and scored by me, Jordan Cooper
P.S. If this gets a decent amount of views, I will happily put up deleted scenes, outtakes, and other bonus stuff left out of the movie!
