Matt was normally a smart kid. He knew how to make smart decisions and keep himself out of trouble. He had managed to go his entire life without ever stepping out of line. At least that had been true until a few months ago. He had always looked up to his uncle as a kind of mythological figure. Outcasted from their family and yet always seeming so strong and confident, it had attracted Matt's attention for years. It was only in the past few months that his awe had transformed into something more. Or maybe it had always been there and Matt was only now realizing the truth of his feelings. Either way, he had been looking for any excuse to pay the man a visit.
The biggest problem was that he was running out of excuses. There was only so many times he could bring his car in because of 'some weird noise' before it became obvious he was lying. That was why he had brought a secret weapon with him this time, a plate of cookies. He had texted the man, telling him of the treats he had made for some track and field club activity and how he had come home with extras. It was a lie, of course. Matt had made the cookies for the sole purpose of bringing them to Allen, but that was too embarrassing to admit.
When Matt arrived, he quickly found Allen and offered the plate to the other. "So uh, here you go." He suddenly felt nervous. What if they weren't good? What if Allen thought he was being a nuisance? "Like I said, they were just leftovers, so sorry if they're not that good." Matt couldn't help but to preemptively try and excuse himself. As much as he wanted Allen's praise, he was also terrified about earning the other's scorn. "I do hope you like them..."
