I had the weirdest fan dream.
So I was watching Voltron and it was an episode entirely about the Holts.
We start at a big banquet dinner to celebrate some huge scientific discovery (or anniversary?) and Sam’s voice is the loudest at the table as he says, “Yes, N-7 is my first daughter-in-law.”
(I’m like yay confirmation! But then I’m like, wait, what does he mean first? Pidge was not in the dream at all, but I guess in my subconscious mind she’s married by this point in time too?)
Sam continues as others join the table…
“I’ve never seen it, but Matt tells me she’s very beautiful under the helmet.”
Which is a conversation that causes both Matt and N-7 to look a bit embarrassed.
There is some sort of alert then and everyone has to spring into action.
It cuts to Matt, N-7, and some troops shooting out of the sky with a blaze of fire behind them, and nothing but jetpacks to soften their descent.
All deploy their packs except N-7, who goes in hot, does a cool action roll, and then takes out an entire line of enemy combatants as her metal scrapes the ground and heats up upon landing to the point it’s almost on fire.
Matt calls out her name, but as soon as he realizes she’s safe and their landing platform is clear of hostiles, the other troops storm the bridge and Matt just pats down N-7’s smoking green cape and tells her to be more careful.
The dream takes a turn as N-7 replies to that by saying:
“Partner Matt. When you found me in the dark all alone we formed a contract, but it is an old one. I think I must return to guide my people into the light as you have done for me.”
Matt immediatley asks if she scraped her servos on that landing, but quickly learns by her body language that she was serious and he takes her hand in his.
“I’ll go with you!” He says quickly.
But… N-7 merely places her free hand on top of his and shakes her head.
“No. You are needed here, with your family.”
“You’re a part of that family, N!” He argues. “If you need help, I want to be there. I’m going.”
“The ecosystem of my planet is not safe for you. No, Matt, I cannot put you into such danger or risk taking you away from your loved ones here on Earth… not again. No, this is something that I must do alone. Do not worry… You will have your apprentice to keep you company while I am gone.”
Matt gets this sad and frustrated look like he’s talking to someone with a lost/damaged memory.
“Nate’s not my apprentice, he’s our son!”
(So they have a son named Nathan, though why N-7 doesn’t remember is a bit bitter sweet. Still, I did my high pitched fangirl squeal in dream-form before coming back to the episode.)
Matt basically says the same thing Adam did in the flashback between him and Shiro and I was all (no no no no no!) but then he gets a cheeky grin on his face by the time he looks back up and says, “just kidding! I’ll be right here when you get back.”
They then press their foreheads together, say I love you to one another, and N-7 walks away with the camera zoomed in on their hands breaking apart.
(While it seemed sad, I remember being really happy about all the things we learned from this episode and woke up in my guestroom, still night outside, and slowly realized that none of it actually happened… it was just a dream.)
I love watching new episodes of my shows in dream-form, but man it hurts when I wake up and realize they aren’t real and I can never watch it again or fan out with other people. So bitter sweet! And I just want to know what was going to happen next! XD
