Penny knew right away when she met her soulmate - the red tint in Matt’s glasses, the sudden brightness in her hair, which she’d only ever dyed by guessing the color names on the greyscale boxes. And even though she knew she was in love with him, even when they were dating, when he promised that he loved her too and nothing would ever change that, she couldn’t help but be nervous - that she would lost him, that he would find someone else that he loved more than her, that he might be the one for her, but she wasn’t for him. Matt reassured her the best he could, but he knew he was fighting a losing battle; he’d lost the chance to find his soulmate for certain the day he’d saved that old man, and the chemicals had rendered everything black and fire forever.
