After using @bennygreb signature from #promarksticks for 4 years straight it was a little stressful when they discontinued the model immediately after I finished my last solo album. They were perfectly weighted and had a taper with girth that allowed speed as well as power. Oh well. The quick scramble for comfort led me to the 5B oak wood tip. A slightly thinner stick but the density of the oak gives it heft. It’s my current go to “all around” stick. The @jasonbonham signature may just take that coveted spot. It’s slightly longer and thicker but the maple construction makes it seem light as a feather. Beautiful combination. The Forward 5B #activegrip clear is a stick I use when my hands aren’t warmed up and I need to be sure that the lack of blood 🩸 flow to my digits for my grip is aided by the slight tackiness of the trademarked finish. #mattsavage signature XB2 is really a marching band practice stick with rubber tips to allow practice on all hard surfaces. On drums the rubber tips give a muted sound similar to an eq with the midrange frequencies turned completely off. The #billycobham signature is a beefier version of the classic #808 @promarkbydaddario model he used to play years ago. Same articulate ball too but with a finger notch at the rear which seems to be cosmetic as I can’t imagine someone’s pinky reaching that far back while making a stroke. @gcalvinweston swears by these sticks. The #elvinjones signature is the thinnest stick I’ve ever played. Like playing with chopsticks. I couldn’t imagine using these sticks unless I really wanted to sound sensitive behind a vocalist or an acoustic string instrument. Once again, I have to thank @promarkbydaddario for allowing me to test out every stick they make. There isn’t anything straighter in NYC.......
