“I don’t need a babysitter.”

“Yes.” He sighed, already frustrated enough with the turn of events. How had he ended up the one in charge of making sure the human survived? The disdain on his face hadn’t been hidden, only growing when Matty had insisted he’d be fine alone. He was almost tempted to let the younger man test out his theory and give his luck alone a run. But he knew it wouldn’t end well and he wasn’t about to tempt fate. “You do. Go out there alone and you’ll get yourself killed. Now shut up and listen to me.”

“Excuse me?!” Taken aback by the man’s words, Evie furrowed her eyebrows and crossed her arms over her chest. “How about I give you the opportunity to turn around and leave before I slap some sense into you?”
