           The smell of tea and spring flowers were fragrant, like a pleasant cloud all too like the morning TIME said it must be. That was all they had now, memory like old photographs left to marinate in false sunlight. The Royal Scientist was a polite creature, pleasantries were all part of keeping what was crumbling beneath his feet from truly plunging him into the depths of something depraved. So he smiled as he so often had, even THEN when those clouds of burning countryside blocked out the sun. 

       Lying was something Gaster had become exceptionally good at.

Gaster’s smile remained in place, though it’s corners were stiff, they were thin as a sheet of paper drenched in water. Such a brittle thing, so ready to rip at its seams. His sullen hands held the tea-cup with care, as was proper, and noted how those gouges his work had begun to leave in his bone were all the more evident to him now.

Clarity in the midst of sweltering decay. He was losing his mind. Surely.

      The question had caught her off-guard. Sure, she was positive that Toriel had made the connection of Katie already having a family, or at least previous caretakers, but to be asked with little to no segwey is... surprising. She never expected to talk about what her life was like before coming to the Underground.

      ➥ Um...              Yeah, I did have one, sort of. I lived with my mom, but it...              it's hard to explain, if I'm honest. Not that I can't talk about it!              I just don't know if you'd want to hear read about it!

      She tilts her head, looking up at the taller demon before her. Or well, she assumes the other was a demon of some kind. Her home was certainly nice too. Probably one of the more friendly looking demons she’s met thus far. Holding her hands in front of her, she bowed politely to the other, looking up at her as though waiting for a command.

          okay, trying to mess with some of those machines in the old lab has been one of the most stupid ideas he’s ever had in his entire life. he’s lucky enough to still have hp keeping his soul together. bless all those long naps and all the extra health he gathers-- just in case something happens, like an idiot almost getting himself killed in some death traps.

          but stumbling right onto the former queen while looking like death itself surely has never been in one of his plans... right, just because this day can’t get any worse than that, of course. hah hah. very funny.
