Vampirism would elevate the Lucy Maud Montgomery Cinematic Universe significantly, in my opinion. Who would you say are the best candidates?

Walter Blythe for sure and he'd have likely taken Una with him if she'd managed to force him. He'd basically be Edward Cullen Canadian version though not gonna lie.

as lovely and culturally iconic as anne is, i wish there was more discussion about emily. i think sometimes she can be a sort of foil to anne in the sense that emily is a far more blunt depiction of a neglected and mistreated orphan, and later a young woman trying to find her place in the world, who did not get the miracle of a happy home that anne did. she’s every bit as whimsical and imaginative as anne, but at the same time her struggles with mistreatment, betrayal, deep depression, familial issues, jealousy, malicious gossip, grooming, and personal fulfillment are met head on, and she continuously has to fight tooth and nail for her happiness.

what I'm taking away from that degree post is that the maudience is one brilliant bunch

Okay so I am 3/4 of the way through Emily of New Moon and these are my thoughts so far.

Clearly L.M. Montgomery is setting Aunt Elizabeth up for a redemption arc à la Marilla Cuthbert, but she seems to have fundamentally misunderstood why this worked well with Marilla and imo does not with Aunt Elizabeth. The worst thing Marilla ever did was keep Anne home from a picnic when she thought she'd lost her brooch and wouldn't let her have frivolous puffed sleeves. These are normal parenting mistakes and she clearly always had Anne's best interests at heart.

Aunt Elizabeth on the other hand is downright evil. Forcing Emily to leave her beloved cats behind when she was just orphaned and is having to leave behind everyone and everything she has ever known?? Drowning kittens?? Invading Emily's privacy by reading her journal?? Attempting to forcibly shear off her hair?? Forbidding reading novels and writing stories?? This woman is downright evil and idc if she has a pang of conscience atp, she is not seeing the pearly gates. #NeverforgetMike

Perry at this point is way more interesting and developed than Teddy and I'm disappointed that I know he and Emily aren't endgame.

I want to give a huge shout out and thanks to @moonlightredfern for organising the Tangled Web Book Club, especially for putting all the excerpts in daily Tumblr posts.

I really loved the Blue Castle and Jane of Lantern Hill book clubs, but I was reading my physical copies of both those, meaning I could and did read ahead. But for ATW, I'm sticking to the daily Tumblr posts and not reading ahead and keeping it slow and really savouring the posts each day. So even though I've read the book once before, it feels a lot more like Dracula Daily and I am super loving the whole experience.

So thank-you @moonlightredfern and everyone who is contributing posts (like @alwayschasingrainbows with their amazing comparisons to other LMM books and @mollywog and @batrachised for the memes and lols, as well as anyone else I've missed!) 💜
