things were read (#350): Infinite Detail by Tim Maughan
Of course the G in 'Maughan' became silent after students could be heard mourning their degrees from the neighbouring buildings. That's why we call it that. #maughan #library #kcl (at Maughan Library)

Heating Water in the Home: A History
Who Invented the first water heater?
Until the 1860s, the only way people heated water was in the kitchen - on the stove or over the fire. Then, in 1868, Englishman Benjamin Waddy Maughan invented the automatic water heater. And we’ve come a long way from there. Today we have water heaters that can be powered by electricity or gas, and we also have tankless water heaters and solar water heaters.
Visit MOPPA.org, The Museum of Plumbing & Plumbing Art to read more about the history of the residential water heater.
