Sources close to Derrick Rose say he was considering walking alway from basketball altogether on Monday. Since returning, he will now reportedly seek a 5 year deal worth $150m. Sorry Derrick but you're not a max player anymore...
The Max Trap: Why Paying Tier 2 Stars Max Money is a Death Sentence Under the Second Apron
This strategic analysis explores the "Max Contract Trap," a growing issue where teams cripple their future by giving maximum contracts to players who are not true number one options. The summary discusses how the Second Apron penalties magnify the damage of these bad contracts, as teams can no longer easily attach assets to dump salary. It argues that in the new NBA economy, a "bad max" is worse than losing the player for nothing.
The analysis evaluates the pressure on small-market teams to overpay to retain talent, often leading to a ceiling of mediocrity. It profiles historical examples of "Tier 2" stars whose max deals prevented their teams from improving the roster. The piece also looks at the rising trend of shorter-term max deals to mitigate risk.
The piece concludes by offering a warning to teams entering free agency. It asserts that the definition of a "max player" must shrink, and that front offices must be willing to let good players walk rather than lock themselves into the financial prison of the Second Apron.
Max Contract Trap shows how aging curves and second apron rules can freeze roster moves, turning loyalty into a cap anchor in the NBA in 202
Maxed Out: Analyzing the Different Tiers of NBA Max Contracts Under the Second Apron
This financial breakdown examines the tiered structure of NBA max contracts and how they interact with the restrictive Second Apron. The summary distinguishes between the 25% rookie max, the 30% veteran max, and the 35% supermax, calculating exactly how much cap space each tier consumes. It discusses the "roster math" problem facing teams, noting that having two 35% max players leaves almost no room for a competent supporting cast under the new rules.
The analysis explores the growing trend of "sub-max" deals, where stars take slightly less than their eligible maximum to help the team avoid the apron. It profiles the different tiers of "max players"—the true superstars worth 35% of the cap versus the borderline All-Stars who cripple a franchise's flexibility at that price point.
The piece concludes by predicting a correction in the market. It suggests that the Second Apron will force a redefinition of who deserves a max contract, potentially squeezing the "Tier 2" stars into taking significantly lower salaries to fit into a championship roster.

NBA Rumors: Bismack Biyombo to Cash in Superb Playoff Performance for Toronto Raptors
Bismack Biyombo is a revelation in playoffs not only for his team, Toronto Raptors, but to many NBA fans as well. With his fine play, he is looking for bigger, heftier contract next season. Will Toronto Raptors give it to him or will they let him go?
Bismack Biyombo signed a two-year contract worth less than a paltry $6 million to play in Toronto Raptors and he can choose to walk away for bigger contract this offseason. Even if Toronto Raptors loses against Cavaliers, Biyombo has already left his mark and team executives have been impressed. Big men who perform their roles well are in demand this offseason.
According to Sporting News, Toronto Raptors will not have the money to sign Bismack Biyombo to a number he wanted because they recently gave Jonas Valanciunas a massive contract. Team executives see Biyombo’s next contract to be close to what Tyson Chandler has in Phoenix: 4 years worth $52 million.
Toronto Raptors were down 0-2 against LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers. Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love have also hit their stride and many basketball fans and fellow players have quickly written off Raptors’ chances. Many believed it would be a sweep but not Bismack Biyombo.
When starting center Jonas Valanciunas got injured and would miss first two games of the playoffs, it was the silver lining Bismack Biyombo is waiting for. He registered career high 26 rebounds, four blocks and seven points but more importantly, he breathed life to Raptors’ sagging playoff chances.
The only other players who caromed 25 plus rebounds in a playoff game? Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon, Tim “The Big Fundamental” Duncan and Dwight “Superman” Howard. Now, Beast-mack Biyombo could join that elite group.
The series is now tied at 2-2. Bismack Biyombo again displayed ferocious defense at the rim and grabbed rebounds like he was possessed. Charlotte Hornets failed to see what his strengths are and use them to the team’s advantage. Bismack Biyombo has never been an offensive force and probably never will be but he can still elevate his good defense to great defense.
Yahoo Sports reports, Bismack Biyombo’s finger swagging antics were copied from legendary defender Dikembe Mutombo. He will not be the next Chandler Tyson, Hakeem Olajuwon or Dikembe Mutombo but if he continues his fine form, he has great potential to create a name for himself in the NBA.
