Repainted the face of my bf's Max Payne statue. The first photo is the repaint, the second photo is how these statues look out of the box, and his unfortunately also had half the beard airbrushed onto the nose 🙃

But the sculpt was great so it looks much better now:

Darkness draped the warehouse in gloom, shadows deep enough that even a flashlight couldn’t pierce to the darkest corners. Being here alone was a dumb move. I’d made plenty of those in my time.

This wasn’t one of them. I wasn’t alone, although I hadn’t brought anyone with me.

“Mona,” I said, tipping my flashlight up to reveal her hiding place in the rafters. “We’ve gotta stop meeting like this.”

She sighed and lowered her sniper rifle. “We would, if you didn’t keep following me.”

I shrugged, lowering the flashlight enough that the light wasn’t in her eyes. “I wouldn’t, if you weren’t always right in the middle of my investigations.”

Mona chuckled, a low sound that echoed through the warehouse. The vibrations sent a shiver through me. “You’re on thin ice, Max.”

I’d been on thin ice for years, a cycle repeating over and over. Every once in a while, the ice underneath me cracked. I kept going anyway. And when the ice shattered, I invariably fell into some new twisted conspiracy that made me lose hope in the goodness of the people around me.

“What else is new?” I advanced further into the warehouse, shining my flashlight on the unmarked crates. I didn’t know what they contained. The information I had on this conspiracy, one of many, just said that whatever was being smuggled was bad news. “Thin ice is fine. Once I get dumped in the water, I’ll swim.”

“You’ll drown or freeze this time. The people you’re investigating are bad news.”

I snorted at the echo of my own thoughts. Aimed my flashlight up at Mona. “Worse than the Inner Circle?”

Mona put her sniper rifle aside and sat up in the perch. “Well, let’s just say they’re cousins.”

“Great.” I was getting pretty tired of dealing with shady conspiracies, but then, I was the idiot who couldn’t let it go.

After the Inner Circle tore itself apart, and I quit and/or got fired from the NYPD, I’d taken up some half-assed private investigating. Some work for clients, some on my own. I wasn’t much good at it, too sleep deprived to know what the hell was going on half the time. I hadn’t slept in ages.

But when I stumbled out of my haze of exhaustion for long enough to look into a problem, I usually found more than I was expecting. And if there was one thing I’d always been good at, it was chasing a scent. Following it to its source. Sinking my teeth in, and hanging on madly for as long and as hard as I could.

“You’re going to get yourself killed.” From Mona, the weary tone was almost fondness. Affection. “You’d better get up here with me.”

I shined the flashlight on the rafters. “I’ve always been better at falling than climbing.”

That earned a laugh from her, a laugh that made me feel prouder than it should have. The response should have been embarrassing. But I was lonely. I missed her when we weren’t together.

“Come on,” she said, rising into a crouch. “I’ll show you how.”

She climbed down to me. I went to meet her. Like I said, I was lonely.

I still didn’t know what Mona and I were to each other. I’d kissed her before, more than once. She’d kissed me back. That didn’t make things any clearer, didn’t return the world from muddy shifting greys to the black and white I’d once known.

Neither did this invitation, Mona’s motivations as cloaked in shadow as always. I still accepted it. I let her show me the way up, and trusted that she wouldn’t let me fall.

The route she’d picked for me was stable, and easier to climb than I expected. I was breathless by the time I squeezed into the perch with her, my muscles trembling.

But that wasn’t from fear or risk of falling. My body was just a mess. It didn’t appreciate all the injuries I’d received every time the ice cracked, leaving me to tumble down into the next circle of frozen hell.

“You are crazy to be here,” Mona murmured, resting her hand across mine. Mine was still shaking from the effort, and from the pain that had worsened during the climb. “But don’t worry. You won’t have to watch an assassination.”

“Good. I might… feel like I had to stop you.” Although we both knew I was in no shape to do that right now. “What am I watching?”

“Just the same thing I am. A meeting between two groups, both bad news. I’m here strictly for information gathering.” Briefly, Mona hesitated. Then she leaned over and kissed me on the cheek. “Kinda nice to have company.”

The comment warmed me, and I smiled as I settled in to wait with her. This was still a dangerous position, like I was asking to fall. Especially if I kept looking into these conspiracies, which I would, because I didn’t know how to let anything go. Soon, bullets would probably be flying again.

I didn’t mind. Maybe this time, Mona and I would be on the same side. And at least for now, the gloom and shadows had lifted from my heart.

The premiere of my new 3D animation based on the cult in-game series Address Unknown, which you may remember from Max Payne 1 & 2, will take place on the 3rd July at 1:00 PM (GMT-5). Here's the link: https://youtu.be/hG04K7t1BBE

This is a visualization of the pilot episode from the first game. I can’t show all the details yet, otherwise it would be no so interesting to watch — but I promise there will be the Pink Flamingo, the Evil Double, and even a little bit of the asylum 😅 and a variation of Red Room of course.

The animation contains many references to the original, but some of the material had to be adapted, since this is no longer a radio play presented through a few static slides, but a full video sequence. Because of that, some of the narrator’s lines were cut. The things they described are now shown visually, so commenting on those ominous moments would have felt redundant. There may also be some minor sound design issues, because separating the original audio track can be quite difficult at times. I’m not a sound design expert, but preserving the original voice acting was more important to me.

The model of John (Sam Lake from 2000's) I made by myself using the new version of HeadShot3 from Character Creator 5 and one of his retro photos from that era. But anyway even with this instrument you should tweak all morphs and set the adequate textures and it takes a lot of time. Hope it worth it.

I hope you’ll enjoy the pilot episode. And I'll get the motivation to continue shooting the rest of the series together with my modeler in the future (there are more 6 episodes).

Why did I take on this ambitious project?

As I’ve mentioned before, this hasn’t been the easiest period of my life. So, to keep myself going, I started setting strange, niche, almost insane goals — the kind of goals that could actually pull me in and make me feel alive again. At least temporarily.
