Moving day.
Abe and Callum had been at Max’s house for a few hours when Callum realized that this was the first time he’d really had fun in months. Callum hadn’t realized exactly how lonely he was until he’d had the chance to spend a decent chunk of time with the people he considered friends.
He’d seen his friends, however briefly since moving to Arkhelios, but it wasn’t enough. He’d missed Max and Mary. Honestly he was even willing to put up with Max’s roommate Danny if it meant having this.
It even seemed like Abe was having a good time. Which he’d tried to convince his boyfriend of about a billion times before now, but it hadn’t worked until tonight. Abe had always had other priorities, or work, or he’d simply claim he was too tired because of said work and responsibilities.
Danny: "Max! There you are! Where were you? Where's your stuff?"
Max: "It's all upstairs. I just came back for my toothbrush. Almost forgot it. Anyway, I met up with the landlord today. There's another unit open, and I took it. Tanya and I are moving in together. I figured I'm earning quite a bit now, and I heard what you said about Minnie and moving too fast, but the problem with Minnie was that I didn't put her first enough, you know? I don't want to let Tanya slip through my fingers. There's no hard feelings on my end, and rents all paid up for now, so you should have time to get a new roommate, if you need one. And I'm still in the same building, so I'm around whenever you want to hangout. I'll always be grateful for your help after the breakup. Love you, man."
Danny: Wonder how long it'll be before he's back on this couch after she leaves him...
Max: "Hey, you're the landlord."
Britta: "I am. Don't worry, I'm just here to get some images for a new listing. One of your neighbors moved out."
Max: "Oh yeah? If you don't mind me asking, what are you thinking the rent will be?"
Danny: "Have you heard the one about having a serial monogamist best friend that's going to get his heart broken over and fucking over. Hysterical! Stop venting, Button, and come up with some actual material..."
Danny: Looking good. Should make one of these my new headshot.
Danny: "Wanna crack open some juice and watch a comedy special with me?"
Max: "Sure! Oh! I need to ask you something. Tanya's lease is ending, and she needs a place to stay. I thought with you always being concerned about rent she could move in with us. Well, with me, in my room. But us in the shared space. I offered it, but she thought I should run it by you."
Danny: "Man, that's not going to solve anything. We'll have more wear and tear on this place, higher water and electric, not to mention groceries. This place doesn't have the space for three. And the landlord's going to agree."
Max: "I... I'm sorry. I just thought since she'd be rooming with me and bringing in more money..."
Danny: "Right. Sorry. Just... I don't think it's going to work out right now. You haven't been seeing her that long, either. You should probably slow down."
Max: "I don't want to slow down. This is real, Danny."
Danny: "That's what you said about Minnie."
Max: "Hey!"
Tanya: "Hi. You're cooking?"
Max: "Yeah. Wanted to make you something nice. Would have used the grill if I had a balcony."
Tanya: "Something to aspire to."
Tanya: "Yeah, it's looking like the landlord isn't going to renew our lease. My roommate decided to move back in with her dad, so I'm the one dealing with the headache of finding a new place and new people to split rent with."
Max: "Hey! I have a great idea! Danny's been saying how we need the help with rent. Another roommate would probably help! And we don't even need an extra room because you can stay with me."
Tanya: "You should probably check with Danny first, just to be sure. But moving in with you would be wonderful!"
Max: "I'm sure Danny will have no problem with it... I'm liking the idea more and more. Getting kind of excited about it... Tanya, I love you."
Tanya: "I love you, too, Max!"
Max: I can't expect Tanya to be into me if all I can cook for her is toaster pastries...
Danny: "Hey, Max. Reading something?"
Max: "A cookbook. I'm trying to find something I can cook for Tanya. I want to impress her!"
Danny: "Great."
