November 8 / 13: Questions and Answers...
I've personally attended dozens and dozens of screenings of MTD around the world now, and though I get asked a set of similar questions about the film, often times I get questions that give me a chance to talk about the film (and my motivations for making it) in great depth. Recently, I was fortunate enough to be invited to screen MTD as part of the Cinema Politica documentary series in Montreal. The Q&A that followed was exceptional for the scope of the questions asked, and I was happy to answer them all as best as I could.
If you haven't had the chance to see a screening in person and be part of a Q&A, check out the video of above, documented by a CP volunteer, and be sure to check out Cinema Politica's website for more information about their documentary programming, in Montreal and around the world.
September 18 / 13: The Next Phase...
[top photo: audience at the premiere of MTD in Italy. bottom: the closing demo of the Open The Cages Tour, a funeral march / vigil.]
We've been home from the Open The Cages tour for a few weeks now, and what an experience it was. In addition to screening MTD in 16 different cities along the east coast of the US and in Quebec and Ontario in Canada, we participated in numerous protests directly against animal research institutions and support targets. It was a great way to combine theory and practice, and in many ways it allowed audiences who had just seen the film and been motivated to act to actually go out and do something. We did everything from a "standing and holding signs" type demo to a mostly silent funeral march to an office disruption of a supporter of HLS, to entering a lab facility to spread literature, to paying a personal visit to the Wistar Institute. You can see video of some of the OTC dates and our protests here, here, and here (FB links).
Now that we're back on home soil, our focus shifts towards continuing to spread DVDs of the film far and wide. So far, we have sent copies to almost every continent in the world (we're looking at you, Antarctica! send in an order!) and we have even received our first round of institutional copy orders for university libraries. As we continue to push the DVD of the film, we will especially be trying to get the film into university libraries and into the hands of student groups who can hold classroom screenings and bring the conversation about animal research to the place where training to become and animal researcher begins. If you can help us spread the word, please do.

While we've been busy in North America, the amazing activists of Animal Equality Italia have been screening MTD (with Italian subtitles!) around Italy. The audiences have been big and the reactions have been very positive. We're delighted to say that all proceeds from our Italian screenings have been going to the Vitadacani Onlus, and specifically the Le Bambine project, which is providing sanctuary and rehabilitation for a group of rescued laboratory macaques. Again, this is a perfect example of the kind of blend of education and action that we are striving for as the film continues to be seen all over the world. Help us keep it going.

With the DVD finally done and orders shipping, we're set to embark upon another tour to help promote the film and get involved in anti-vivisection actions with the 2nd annual Open The Cages Tour. By the time we join the tour physically tomorrow, it will have already been going for more than a week. Words can't describe how excited we are to reconnect with the grassroots and bring the film to a whole bunch of cities that it hasn't been to before. Check out our screenings page for more info, and check out the OTC website and facebook page for rolling updates.
That's it for now. It's been a hot summer and it's fixing to be one we're going to remember for a long time.

June 6 / 13: DVD Pre-Orders / Release Dates...
The past few months have been a long stretch of programming, subtitling, layout and lots of technical lessons, but at long last, we are excited to finally bring you the Pre-Orders and Release Dates for the Maximum Tolerated Dose DVDs. We have spent a lot of time and consideration deciding just how to package, present, and make these available to the public, and we think you will appreciate the variety of ways in which we are bringing this film forward for you to order. We have plans for a digital download of MTD which will include the film as a high-quality digital movie file along with various other digital goodies, but those details won't likely emerge until the Fall. In the next little while, we will be tweaking the website you are looking at right now to reflect these new and forthcoming ways to access the film.
The DVD comes in two versions: A "regular" edition" and a "special" edition. Details are as follows:
Maximum Tolerated Dose - Regular Edition DVD
Full Film, Uncut Subtitles in Spanish, Italian, Polish Slim mini-Amaray Packaging Links to extra materials, including a PDF booklet.

April 15 / 13: Momentum...
[a close-up of Miss Peepers, one of the non-human characters in the film.]
Looking back, it's hard to imagine what a difference a year makes. At just about this time last year, we were in beginning stages of what would end up being a 6-month editing marathon, trying to figure out what ideas Maximum Tolerated Dose would bring forward, and what it would look like. I personally love editing and so it was an exciting time, if not a bit daunting. At this time last year the film still did not have a set pace, narrative, or structure... It was just a pile of disparate but promising footage, with still more coming in. Needless to say, at that point, it still felt like a pretty steep incline towards getting the film out and available to audiences.
If you've been following the project, of course you know that since then, a lot has happened. Since finishing the film in mid-2012 and embarking out on the first Open The Cages Tour, the film has screened at dozens of theatres and community spaces, with thousands having seen the film so far. The film has won awards for it's contribution to the discussion around animal experimentation, and Universities from around the world have hosted screenings in their medical science buildings and in classes on animal ethics. All of the developments have been heartening and always inspire us to push further.
In the past couple of months, we held our first screenings of MTD across Australia in collaboration with Humane Research Australia. These screenings were some of the best events that we've held so far, and the team at HRA did an amazing job of bringing out audiences that were interested in having a constructive dialogue around the issues. Just before heading off to Australia, I was fortunate enough to sit down for an interview with Dr. Lauren Corman on the Animal Voices radio program, and it was a huge honour to be featured on a show that (and with a person who) was so formative to the way I've approached animal issues. The interview was one of the most in-depth and definitive that I've done on the film, and I strongly encourage people check it out, as it touches on so many things that I learned from Lauren and the AV show, and brings light to some of the key themes in the film. Just after returning from Australia, I was honoured to present the film in one of Lauren's Critical Animal Studies classes as well, with an excellent discussion that followed with the students. Since then, MTD has screened in more than half a dozen cities across North America, including a special screening at Emory University (home of Yerkes National Primate Research Center, which is discussed prominently in the film in the stories of Rachel and Jerom), with Dr. Lori Marino and Christina Colvin participating in a panel discussion afterwards. A full report-back from that screening will come soon.
Looking forward, the MTD camp will be very busy over the next few months. We're in the process of putting together the best DVD package we possibly can while keeping it at the most affordable price possible, and will have details of that soon, as well as details of the digital download package that we will offer with the film. We hope to have it ready and shipping in time for the 2nd Open the Cages Tour, which will be even bigger than last year. We have an exciting tour of screenings coming up across Poland (and the movie will feature Polish subtitles!) and we'll have further dates on where to see the film across Europe soon enough. As always, stay tuned to the screenings page for the latest info.
Take good care, and we will too. Karol and the MTD team.
