24 & 2 for Thea Mays 😌
2. Favorite canon thing about this character? i think what initially drew me to her is that i really love characters who have spent their whole lives + made their whole identity about their passion for One Thing and are now trying to learn how to be a person outside of that. i love her drive and her passion for tennis, but it's been really satisfying to watch her break out of her shell and learn to lean on other people through it. i hope it continues!! + the ace subtext, whether or not it goes anywhere, it's still very important to me.
24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them? iris bennett from world beyond (re: my last question, thinking she has to be one thing for so long that she forgets to live beyond that). sad because i know i've compared so many other characters to her before and i'm blanking, but that's a big one.
editing to add to the last one: there's also a little taissa from yellowjackets in her, my favorite character ever <3 + rachel reid from the wilds. both because of how driven they are and how that often holds them back.
Unscripted with Mila Vested Interest: ABC Corp, Book 6 By: Melanie Moreland Narrated by: Maxine Mitchell & John Lane From New York Times b
My Review
What a way to wrap up a series! I've fallen in love with several Melanie Moreland couples, and while I still love them all dearly, Nicholas and Mila have a special place in my heart. Not only is their story the final for the Vested Interest: ABC Corp, which makes it bittersweet, but this couple brings all the feels - and they do it without the big 3rd act breakup. They still have their share of things to work through and overcome, and I love how well Melanie Moreland handled the mental health stuff. I say stuff because I don't want to spoil the story, but the seriousness of the topic is handled with complete respect, as well as accuracy.
I love how totally sweet this couple is, and they have such good chemistry right from the start. Plus, this is a next-generation series, so we get some catch-up time with several past favorites. The story does have its share of seriousness, but true to Melanie Moreland form, we also get some wonderfully well-timed wit and humor, which is always welcome as far as I'm concerned. The whole thing is well-written, and this is a couple I won't soon forget.
This is part of a series, but it can be read as a standalone. Fair warning though,: once you've met these characters, including the secondary ones, you'll be hooked. Found family is one of my favorite tropes, and the BAM world is one big found family.
Reading Nicholas and Mila's journey was all kinds of emotional, and to be honest, I wasn't sure the audio would have the same impact - I love Maxine Mitchell and John Lane, and they are both terrific narrators. That said, I had the voices of these characters in my head, as well as the tone and even the feeling behind the words, and I just wasn't sure it would all come through in the audio. There are a serious amount of feels in this one. I should have known better than to doubt these narrators because they pulled out all the stops. Every bit of emotion, good and bad, comes through loud and clear. Lane and Mitchell took these characters and became them, and I was just as immersed in the audiobook as I was when I read it. So, yes, Nicholas and Mila still hold a special place in my heart, and I'll be revisiting both editions of their story.

This couple surprised me. Not because they aren't good together and not because they aren't sexy because they are certainly both those things. The surprise is what a sweet couple they are. It's unusual to find such a sweet romance in a rockstar romance, at least in my experience. The story is also steamy and full of humor, which is just what I needed this week. The residents at Sam's work had me in stitches. They're a sneaky bunch, and it doesn't take long to figure out that Tanner and Sam don't stand a chance once they get started. All that is terrific and makes for a great listen, but my favorite thing about this one is the personal growth of both characters. Tanner and Sam have some things to deal with, and I just really enjoyed how they are each other's strength and support as they grow as a couple. The narration is as good as the material. I've listened to Maxine Mitchell several times, so I expected and found good things from her. Eric Michael Summerer was new to me, but I thoroughly enjoyed his performance as well. Both narrators brought out all the feels, whether it was tears or well-timed wit or anything in between. This is book 4 in Christina Hovland's Mile High Rocked series, but it can be enjoyed as a standalone. I haven't had the pleasure of reading the first 3 books yet, but after meeting so many of the characters, I'll certainly be checking them out.

Let me clarify: I grew up believing that real love stories include a martyr or demand great sacrifice to be worthy. Because of that, I believed it, because I made myself believe it, and I bred the most masochistic of romantic hearts, which resulted in my illness. When I lived this story, my own twisted fairy tale, it was unbeknownst to me at the time because I was young and naïve. I gave into temptation and fed the beating beast, which grew thirstier with every slash, every strike, every blow. Triple Falls wasn’t at all what it seemed, nor were the men that swept me under their wing. But in order to keep them, I had to be in on their secrets. Secrets that cost us everything to keep. That’s the novelty of fiction versus reality. You can’t re-live your own love story, because by the time you’ve realized you’re living it, it’s over. At least that was the case for me and the men I trusted my foolish heart to. Looking back, I’m convinced I willed my story into existence, due to my illness, and all were punished.
