Today I’ve learnt that every day’s an opportunity to… Just Do It!
I have this recurring fantasy where I spontaneously walk into a hairdresser off the street and utter the dangerous words, “Go nuts!”
Well, today was that day.
My long-time hairdresser in Sydney stocks L’Oreal Professional, so I figured I’d reduce the shock factor by sticking with a brand I trusted. A quick check online on theL’Oreal directory brings up the salon “Heading Out”, and a few hours later I’m being asked by Maria – “So what are we doing?”.
My response? “Whatever! I’m open to anything…go nuts”.
But when Maria suggests a darker shade, I immediately want to run out the door! Being a flaxen-haired blonde my whole life – this was a huge deal. Then I remember my fantasy and I just go with it, smiling, “Sure, yep I trust you!”.
Maria talks me through her experience with the L’Oreal Professional brand which she affectionately describes as ‘gentle’, ‘nourishing’ and having a ‘broad range’. The salon also gets involved in L’Oreal Fashion week and Maria herself has won Colourist of the Year (cue my internal sigh of relief!). Some more chat about some styles that would suit me, and I’m becoming a lot more relaxed. Maria and I are practically like best pals! We talk ponytail extensions and coloured chalk, which both come as new concepts to me but are apparently very chic styles that are big at the moment.
Maria decides to go with a subtle-but-sexy ombre colouring, and pops in some great clip-in extensions before finishing off my look with adding some curls.
I walk away really happy with the cut, and incredibly surprised that the darker shade doesn’t scare me off too much. The extensions and curls were a bit harder to get used to, but I’m assured that they’d be less dramatic after a few hours.
And the best part of it all? I’ve realised how easily you can re-book and “Just Do It” all over again tomorrow!
