I’ve ranted about it so many times... but I love Max and Logan from Dark Angel so much. As I’ve said, they’re my favorite TV show couple (and one of my OTPs). And to me, one of the best written couples ever.
You just... you see their full relationship: how they meet, become acquaintances/allies, and then friends and confidants, and then best friends and eventually in love. And it’s just so well-done and believable. You get why they fall in love and why they’re good together.
And the writers wrote them as perfect Foils/”You Complete Me as My Opposite” characters to each other. But they also have so much in common, too, that you don’t think the differences they had would ever be enough to drive them apart. Like, they have enough similarities to hang onto, too.
And their whole rough journey to becoming a couple... at least in season one, it was so adult, raw, and real. They’re both so broken for different reasons (and maybe a few that are the same), and are somewhat jaded and don’t really believe in romantic love... They both also have their own insecurities, and all these reasons in their heads that they shouldn’t be together and even try it, but they are in love, and eventually they have to figure that out.
Also, that relationship they were in... Where they were both essentially in a relationship with each other, without the physical--and both of them knew it, for the most part it--but could never admit it for the longest time, and were so scared to breech this fake world and lie they’d made for themselves... holy crap, was that interesting.
And they broke gender norms, too.
And it was a disabled guy with a super hero girl.
I just love this ship so much.
Edit: And here’s something else I also liked about them, that I don’t think I’ve ever once talked about: I enjoyed how the girl was the dark one and the guy the light one (morality-wise), as usually it’s the other way in stories. Or if it was done this way in the past, the girl was often times vilified... but not Max. She’s the hero of this story, even if she is the darker and more cynical one. And I love it.
Edit 2: They were also each other’s equals, for some of the reasons I’ve said above (like, emotionally they were on the same level). But Max was a genius like Logan was (in fact, she may even be smarter than he was)... and though Max was “stronger” than Logan as the genetically engineered, able-bodied girl... there were still so many times where he had to save her. In fact, it seemed like every episode it was like, “And this is the episode where Max saves Logan, but next week he’ll save her”, rinse and repeat. And it was great.
