Entertaining.

A powerful foe using magic to threaten the Enterprise.

It's still nothing like the TV show but some elements/tropes/ideas from the original are beginning to appear. This story shares a background with the Khan episode. And there's a pretty girl in the story for no reason. The story almost makes sense. It's mostly misdirection. A lot of the detail is later revealed to be subterfuge. It's really just a bad guy who wants the ship, the rest is filler.
