I find it funny that OSC claims to not be a homophobe and yet...he has said (or is quoted as having said) some pretty vile things. But, he's entitled to say what the fuck he wants and who am I to Judge him for that? well besides somethings he said. "What the novel offers is a treatment of characters who share, between them, a forbidden act that took place because of hunger on one side, compassion on the other, and genuine love and friendship on both parts. I was not trying to show that homosexuality was “beautiful” or “natural”—in fact, sex of any kind is likely to be “beautiful” only to the participants, and it is hard to make a case for the naturalness of such an obviously counter-evolutionary trend as same-sex mating." This was concerning the song master I believe, could be wrong. The rest is inconsequential (though no less unpleasant). Its that last bit that gets me. Its not obvious as to what the role of same sex relations is in the context of evolution. We only know its not solely restricted to humans. We don't actually know the underlying reasons for its existence, let alone its role. To assume we (as in the human race) do know and with certainty, is asinine. Personally. I am fond of my hypotheses for why, which I'll cover in another post. In the same vein there is a quote that I can't seem to find. Basically calls homosexuality a genetic mistake. This can be filed with above. However it illustrates wishful thinking. That in some way homosexuality is some kind of mistake. That evolution just fucked up. One of the most beautiful things about evolution is nothing is truly a mistake, only an opportunity. Good and evil can't be ascribed to a process, an especially long-term opportunistic process. To conclude, because my brain went fploosh. Considering those two very un-sciencey things. I'd say he doesn't have the finest grasp of science. Not to claim I do, but I wouldn't go around touting hypotheticals as though they were facts. Even so. I might pirate the movie and buy the books (enders series) used henceforth. Maybe even buy the movie used.
