Zig had only been at the party fifteen minutes, but it was clear that it was in full swing long before he arrived. Making the rounds along the beach, Zig stopped here and there when he saw a familiar face, mingling while he searched for Maya. She’d asked to make plans with him to meet at the party, and as much as he didn’t want to admit it, Zig couldn’t help feeling a little nervous. It felt like a large gap had been formed between them over the summer. For him, it was as though his entire life had been flipped on its head, and then turned inside out for good measure. His transformation wasn’t just on the surface, even though that was the most apparent part. Given everything the two had been through the prior school year, Zig hoped they could make a new start and not get stuck on past events. After scanning the area a couple more times, he spotted the blonde haired girl a short distance away. There was no reason why anything had to go amiss tonight, Zig reasoned. It was only Maya, after all. He made his way up to her and poked on her right shoulder, tricking her when he showed up on her right side. His lips curled into a coy smile, making an intentionally bad attempt at seeming innocent. “Having fun so far?”
