CW: long rant from a former POC fan of the show

I don't even think Goose understands the song herself, considering that she left out that the song is specifically about a BLACK baby girl. Black women are masculinized, adultified, and overall mistreated by society. Stevie Wonder asserted his newborn daughter's place in the world before society could. She's lovely, she's wonderful, and she's beautiful. He wanted Aisha to grow up knowing that before racism could make her, or anybody else, think otherwise.

Goose chose that song because white people are willfully incapable of understanding the nuances of intersectionality. I've seen hordes of white queers get upset that southern, straight couples on TikTok were using the giver by Chapell Roan--a song about a service top lesbian who gives head better than a dude. How interesting that they suddenly can't understand why a white person divorcing the blackness from a black song is ignorant.

You can almost feel the delight white queers have at black fans' expense in the comments of the post you linked.

I love seeing people getting angry and like "B-but its about a birth of a girl!" CAUSE YEAH. IT IS ABOUT A BIRTH OF A GIRL. 😭😭

What especially irritates me is that Goose/Glitch could have made their own song. Or comissioned their own song. Or not done a montage. In a world where people of colour frequently have their culture(s) taken away from them, we have one of the most adored indie creators feeding into that, releasing her finale on Juneteenth, too. And I think Gooseworx knows that it's bad and just doesn't care.

Also the "it's a birth of a girl still cause Jax is trans!" thing is ridiculous. Jax is an adult who has harmed others more than any baby could.

Hey, I was the anon who originally talked with you about Goose's usage of "Isn't She Lovely," and I was reading the comments on that post. I don't want to call anybody out by name, but there was a specific argument I saw that is one rooted in white ignorance:

I mean, your assertion that a black song (THAT THEY PAID THE RIGHTS TO USE) shouldn’t be used because they’re not black really speaks of deeply ingrained segregation-like beliefs. Black songs ONLY for black people. White songs ONLY for white people. You sound deranged and EXTREMELY hypocritical (and a little transphobic) when you talk like this...

We have LAWS about what is or isn’t good use of transformative use! Why the fuck are you trying to segregate people by their skin color?

This argument immediately jumps to segregation, which is exceptionally odd because no one was talking about segregation. Historically, non-white people were segregated by white people to keep public areas "clean." They were forcibly removed from society. Spaces meant for POC only are not forged out of that segregationist mindset, which is why applying a colonialist mentality, like that commenter was doing, to these arguments does not work.

No one is saying that white people cannot use songs made for black people, or vice versa. That's a strawman created to guilt POC into not establishing boundaries. The problem is that Gooseworx, a white woman with an antiblack past, used a black song about a black baby girl's birth and recontextualized it to be about a non-black character's trans identity. Her ignorance is what I took issue with.

There is a significant difference between a director using SZA's "Kill Bill" in their Netflix movie about a non-black, vengeful ex-girlfriend and a director using "Run And Tell That" from Hairspray, recontextualizing it to be about a white man with a tan. Though they are both songs by black artists, one song's meaning is not universal, while the other's is.

That's not even mentioning the antiblackness Gooseworx has exhibited, in addition to continuing to work with people who are antiblack themselves. It adds another layer of disgust to the situation.

Well done explaining. I wish people would bother to look up terms/history before they use them in their arguments.

What's your thoughts on Harley and Quinn doomed father son dynamic ? It's one of my favorites but it's objectively better when Harley is kept in character where he still has lack of affective empathy and guilt and is still a self centered man who sees Quinn as an extension of himself

I think that Harley-Quinn father-son stuff is pretty interesting and I wish we could have had their relationship developed more in game. I don't think that it's really one of those things which could have any happy endings though and I'm not a fan of when people try to make it that way (no hate to anybody who does ^^'). Even in some world where Harley wasn't traumatized and they met under different circumstances, their relationship would still be messed up or just not form at all. Also

"whoa bro stop projecting ur autism onto everybody ahahahaha stop desperately trying to approximate everything to your own worldview because you have low empathy but still desperately want to connect with others ahahahahahahahahahahahaha whoa there harley i know ur trying to break the cycle of being sad and lonely all the time but oh boi!! ur going to make it worse!!! stop that harley!!!" - me two months ago about Harley's treatment of Quinn. maybe i'm wrong but the "you just see the world a little differently" from Harley to Quinn is hinting at something of the sort

Hot take it feels like Goose tried to pull a red maze ARG and failed HARDCORE. I feel WAY MORE sympathy for Harley than I ever will for Jax. Infact that red maze arg made me feel hurt for him. I don't even want to imagine how much it must have hurt.

Then I look at Jax and feel.. Nothing much.

I know that's an odd comparison but I hope that's getting my point across.

To the uneducated, the "Red Maze" is a part of Poppy Playtime Chapter 4: Safe Haven's ARG, and serves as an archive of the thoughts of Harley Sawyer (an important character in PPT), showing how much his mental state deteriorated.

While I do not think that she was exactly trying to replicate the Red Maze- or has even heard of it- you do have a point. The Red Maze works so well because it communicates Harley's thoughts in a way that hint more at his mental state and the plot itself, without feeling heavyhanded. It makes actual sense since he's a computer and it was expressed that Playtime could access his thoughts in Ch4. Whereas the logic foundation for Jax's segment isn't even attempting to make itself known.

Side note, here's some other thoughts on the Red Maze which you should totally check out not cause they flopped or anything nooo-

Yeah I get what you mean. I'm just saying while to some degree I enjoy the 'inside the mind scape " thought there's something about the red maze messages that feel so gut wrenching in a sense. Maybe because it's because attachment but good lord. If even it made me when more angrier then Leith for even doing that. Like it physically hurts to think about it.

I know this is once again because I am attached to the character cough cough /sil but I think many brush over how horrifying it is essentially that someone else has access to your mind and can just.. Make you think things if necessary. Like the only space you can think without being judged being invaded? Because thought crimes don't exist?

And then I see people casually draw Leith as a silly man but that's not what this is about

Whilst we're on the topic let's mention that Jax did NOT seem to mind that Pomni has invaded his mind and found out stuff that she would or would not say or do (but Jax's mindscape is another story).

All I'm saying one got more emotion out of me than the other. Spoilers It's not the rabbit.

yeah i would be pretty pissed if my friend invaded my mind space too. in the future maybe goose will use that to explain why she couldn't explicitly state that jax was a trans woman in his mindscape- "he would be mad at pomni if she found that out while reading his mind". i can see ms worx trying that.

Hey it's me again, thank you for your kind words. I'm working on trying to make peace with the knowledge that I exist. I appreciate every person on here or any platform really who has looked beyond the black and white of me. Like huge shout out to the playtime exposed Account here who actually made me feel so seen. The most difficult part is trying to heal and deal with the memories that came with existing. With the leftovers of rage and genuine hatred towards those who did this to you. The pain and hatred tends to become overwhelming at night but slowly I try to figure ways how to finally breathe again. Because besides all of that.. I actually started to appreciate being human again. I missed feeling and I don't even know how to describe it. It's 1 am I probably should start to go to bed but again, thank you
