Bertone worked with Mazda from the early 1960s as Mazda sought to create a distinctive aesthetic for their model range. The S8/10 P was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and presented to Mazda in 1964 as a prototype for a flagship sedan. It was mocked-up to be powered by Mazda’s L8A engine, their first twin-rotor unit, like the RX-87 driving the front wheels. It didn’t make it beyond the prototype stage, but the design was adapted for the first generation Luce of 1966.

This 1969 Mazda Luce coupe is so pretty. It is also one of the only Rotary powered Front wheel drive cars produced. It was not imported to the US. Luce means Light in Italian.
