Emotional wounds refuse to heal on Lorne’s new single ‘Oil and Water,’ a darkly ambient track that sees muted keys drift across a cavernous backdrop as the steady shuffle of drums, sombre horns and ponderous synths lead to a bittersweet end, accompanied by hypnotic visuals and a captivating dance performance where opposites fight to attract.
Like previous single ‘Bread Alone,’ the British singer once again plumbs such heartbreaking depths through the use of religious motifs, influenced by the likes of Bon Iver, Radiohead, Damien Rice, Elbow, Coldplay and composer Danny Elfman. As Lorne explains via press release:
‘Like many songs, Oil and Water was inspired by a relationship that didn't work out. I liked the analogy 'Oil and Water' to describe two sides that fail to come together no matter how hard they try.’
‘Oil and Water’ is from Lorne’s forthcoming EP Maze, out November 24.
