Because I’ve been replaying Maze of Shadows on my GBA, I like to think that the Matoran Feeding Points in the MU look like the rejuvenation towers from the game

some "GBA-style" bionicle character portraits for a small game i'm working on. trying to replicate the low-res low-color palette prerendered look of games like maze of shadows and quest for the toa. some genuine examples of the style i'm trying to replicate under the cut. i think i did a decent job

the goal is to try to balance making something that looks cool and nostalgic while also not taking too long to produce, since I need to make a LOT of these portraits. doing hand drawn pixel art for every character and enemy is just out of the question unless i want to spend dozens of hours on it, and since this is just a small fairly niche hobby project, it just doesn't seem worth it.

the process for making these is pretty much just importing models from studio to blender, changing up the materials and lighting to look more like renders from the 90s/00s, rendering at 48x48, then palettizing them, tweaking the color palette until i get a result that i like. i also added black borders as i think they look nice, but i may end up removing them. i haven't decided yet.

Nokama has the most faith in Vakama, so she’s the first one to do it…Nuju follows probably because he respects her & agrees anyway, Whenua does it because Nuju did it…they all look at Matau who goes along because he is a team player at the end of it all. And then we get Onewa saying ‘I’ll do it because you ask, Nokama,’ which 😭😭😭

and then Vakama taking a weirdly violent offense to it. what an interaction.
