he fights less like an agent these days and more like a caged animal. it’s methodical, strategic in its design, but it’s less structured. he breaks noses with his elbows, isn’t afraid to use his head as an offensive weapon, and hasn’t worn anything resembling a tactical vest in weeks. it’s strange, stripping away the layers that once comprised of grant ward, agent of shield, and settling into just ward ... but there’s something freeing in that too. like a weight’s been lifted from his shoulders, or the restraints digging into his skin have been given just enough slack to explore.
today he’s got his target in a headlock, applying just enough pressure to render them unconscious. when they go limp, he eases them down to the ground and cuffs them to a drainpipe. once he finds the alien tech they’re rumoured to have around here, he’ll dress them both up in a pretty package and call in the tip. the only problem is that once he’s found the tech and locked it in the storage container, someone’s trying to make off with his target. “ well this is awkward. ” he remarks, staring over at the woman. the man’s still cuffed to part of the drain pipe, so she must have ripped it straight out of the wall. great. likely an enhanced. “ i’m going to need him back .”
