I'm writing blind, but I am writing. Until actors actually hit the stage, it's difficult to know what music needs to happen. So I'm writing for scenes as I see them in my head, and will adjust or recompose later.
The pallet is nailed down and approved. Themes have been identified for the most part. I'm cranking out "moods" more than anything. Jousting, kidnapping by pirates, weddings, brothels, etc. Typical Shakespeare.
The new Hackintosh runs East West Orchestral without complaint. I'm working on a pretty complex top-of-show piece now (which I'm finally starting to love) and have East West running with 8 instruments so far, with Philharmonik running at the same time, and it doesn't seem to phase the computer in the least.
Add to that half a dozen reverbs, a delay and several EQs,and you've got a combination that would have brought my old ProTools 8 rig to a grinding halt.
There are still some odd glitches, but I don't; think it has anything to do the the computer. I think they're all ProTools and MBox Pro issues, which I'll deal with later because they are not stopping me from working.
I suspect tech for this show is going to be intense. I have not tested my Macbook Pro to verify that ProTools 8 still works since the upgrade to Mountain Lion, but I think I'm going to need it to edit in the theater, and the Hackintosh is anything but portable.
