MC's family past speculations.
Warnings: cussing, opinions, Thanos.
Note: Really, there are numerous reasons why MC doesn't speak to her family much. It could just be that she doesn't want to worry them with the night shift job she's on, simple as that— But that's boring. Let's wear out our mind beans over miniscule details together ❤️🩹
To get started, there's evidence of people, most likely her family, sending handwritten messages to MC during a scene. (Took me ages to find the clip through a YT video for some reason, holy balls)
There are quite a few assumptions in these concepts (as every theory does lol) since MC's past isn't very prevalent throughout the story so far, so this is merely a few rough premotions thrown around as food for thought.
And before this rant starts, here's color coded things to rate how likely they are to be canon in my PERSONAL opinion! This doesn't mean I'm not open to feedback tho ofc
Green: Solid 8-10/10 possibility of occuring.
Orange: Perchance. 4-7/10
Red: Whatever you say beautiful!! 0-3/10.
Blue: What is bro on 🫵😂 (plot twist) ∞/10
1. MC's family was reaaally strict.
Her parents may have put pressure on her to go to college, achieve something super difficult, yata yata... Y'know the jist. This would've led her to have break free from those expectations weighing her down and go off to do her own thing. For example— Ditch college. Whether it'd have been early or not at all, her parents would've freaked. Hell, she could've only gotten hair dyed. The point is, she went off on her own at some point and avoided direct contact at all costs to not deal with their cruel comments about her life. "You could've been a doctor...", "What happened to our sweet girl?", "I'm disappointed you turned out like this". No one wants to hear that, meanie weenie 💔🥀
Little on the basic side, but I wanted to start off more realistic.
2. They neglected her.
I'm talking full on "fend for yourself" kinda neglect. Yeah, it's far fetched a teensy tiiiny bit, but never say never! This means she'd have learned basic necessities from scratch, like, making food, bathing, doing school, getting to places alone at a young age... Ik this case, she might've had a sibling that was "better", or they worked too much to give a shit (likely the 2nd). If they compared her to her sibling and never paid attention to her as a person, it'd be annoying as hell, so again, she might've left the minute she scraped up enough money ORRRR if someone was nice enough to let her room with them... *wiggles eyebrows* (COUGH Amelia). If not this, and they just acted like she didn't exist until she got older and "gained value". Probably got immediately kicked out at 18. Maybe a bit younger if she was emancipated. And for a more fun detail: MC'S parents dropped her off at the grandparents' home, so they raised her as well! Not extraordinarily, but just enough so she could pick up on skills easier. She never gave away too many home life details since she wasn't super talkative, which means he grandparents' didn't know. That, OR there were signs, it's just that they didn't care either (nonchalant ass family 💔)
To add onto this, we're gonna swing back on that theory of her D.I.D. theory and say she developed this during childhood to cure her loneliness. The alter could've started out as a character she'd play in front of her parents to "protect" herself, like how a parent would shield their child from the cruel world. (Must... Spread... MC having D.I.D....Propaganda...)
3. Her parents told her to settle for less.
Ahhh, the classic Debby downers. Who really likes pessimistic goals?? We'd all love to aim for the best option! She wanted more out of this life. However, her parents didn't want her to get hurt if she failed. Instead of fueling her fire, they tried snuffing it out completely and getting her to go for something "normal". Miss MC didn't appreciate their lack of support. Whether she understood the reasoning behind their actions is up to you, but what matters is the parents approach to the situation. If they tore her down, that's obviously going to drive any child away, so she, again, avoided them. She might've tried to explain herself at first— why she kept going, why they shouldn't treat her like the way they do. They didn't care to listen, because they "knew best". When she landed her current job, that's when the once vibrant world went dark. It had been gradually getting dimmer some time as life got harder, but that moment of applying for the job was when she realized... they were right. She wasn't going to fulfill her dreams. Who was she, anyway? Just some Joe Shmoe with overgrown hope and delusions larger than reality. Not the main character on some cliche coming of age movie who'd achieved their goal and live happily ever after.
4. Parents were overprotective ASFFF
How am I supposed to know what's riiight? Just gotta do it your wayyy... Ok, this one's easy to tackle. Basically, they were too overbearing and cautious to the point they drove her away. That could be an explanation on why she has cautious tendencies AND why they sent mail in the past! "But if they're just overprotective, why'd she cut nearly all contact?" Good question! Imagine an overprotective family... Now, multiply that by 50. It's that bad. And to add some extra seasoning to this horrific mix, let's say they also have traditional views! Yes, you read that right. Poor girl's taking two at once (not Lane and BB, unfortunately). Dealing with people like that is hard enough as is, but they STALK YOU TOO?! She left the second she could and skipped townSSS, even states to escape their wrath! Almost skipped countries, but she was too broke for all that... They found her anyway, as we can see. This time, however, she stood her ground and made sure they understood the law would get involved if they didn't give her enough space. They DID listen to that, at least. Now, she's left with issues to unpack all on her own.
This also gives her extra fuel to be mad at Lane for making those stupid comments.
5. She had a normal childhood.
6. Her past stays open ended.
This is probably the most likely one tbh. I don't hate it, actually.
In conclusion, these all lead back to Rome— her difficulty making connections with people is tied to the past. Or she could just not have a strong desire for that kind of thing, no one really knows, except Laly lol. I almost thought of expanding a little more on this topic, but each one I thought of was less and less coherent, much less plausible. It provided me great amusement, though.
Last note, her past COULD be a mix of a few of these concepts.
Thanks for reading to this point! It means a lot :)))
