Maeve entered the living room, a first aid kit and warm flannel in hand, to find Happy sprawled on the sofa, feet propped on the coffee table, groaning. He'd shown up at her door in the dead of night, bruised and bleeding, claiming a "minor disagreement" was to blame.

"I can take care of myself. I'm not a child," Happy grumbled as Maeve helped him lift his blood-soaked T-shirt over his head.

"Two things," Maeve began, meeting his gaze as she started to clean his busted lip. "You came knocking on my door at 2 AM, clearly for help. Next time, don't bother if you don't want it." Happy grunted, taken aback by her bluntness, and looked away, acknowledging her point. She continued, pulling his face gently back towards her, "Secondly, I can see you're not a child. I'm sure the other guy looks worse." Her eyes held a clear warning against further resistance.

A few minutes of silence passed, punctuated only by Happy's fidgeting. Maeve leaned back, assessing her bandaging work, then began putting away the supplies and gathering the rubbish.

"I'm sorry," Happy mumbled, head bowed. "You're right. I had no right to wake you up and be rude."

Maeve paused, sighing softly as she looked at him. "I appreciate your apology, Happy. I'm just here to help." She offered a small, reassuring smile and squeezed his thigh. He met her gaze, returning the smile. "You're more than welcome to stay the night or use the shower. Do you want me to get you a change of clothes?"

"Thank you," Happy replied, bringing her hand to his lips for a brief, grateful kiss. "I'd like that."

In the mc world my friends and I have created, there's a current sense of uneasy peace between villagers and illagers due to the "hero" having been gone from the world for a long long while. This has led to an evoker taking interest in Kipper, a villager librarian who- with no formal training in magic- is writing his own original enchantments. They gifted him some potent incense evokers use at times to open their minds to the writings of the universe.

The incense evokers use is made in part from end dragon smoke.

In this world, illagers worship the end dragon and believe that endermen are ascended illagers of old. They attack the "hero" because they want to delay the inevitable death of their deity, knowing that the "hero" will eventually make their way to the End, a place illagers consider sacred.
