Final Blog Assignment: Mass Communication: Media Production

Discovering Your Passion:

I first discovered my passion of being creative when I was very young, about 4th when I wrote my first song.  Now I write songs, poetry, stories, movies scripts and trying to write a book as well.  I also produce music and movies.  I edited films and pictures (I have example of my photography edits below).  I draw fairly well and I’m great at photography.  Anything dealing with being creative I can basically achieve it.  I love to perform these actions; it’s not only fun but relaxing and exciting.  I couldn’t imagine doing anything else, but being creative with my time.  Finding my musical passion came full throttle my sophomore year at Alcorn; when I bought my first MacBook Pro and discovered GarageBand.  I played around with the beat making for hours just to figure it out and get it right.  My passion for art came to me during middle school I took an art class every year since, and even in college I took a drawing class.  My poetry passion was discovered in 9th grade in my English class.  That’s when I began to seriously write, and now I have over 80 poems in my collection.  Just wanting them to get published now.  My filming and editing passion came recently when I decided to transfer the Jackson State.  I made the music and needed a video and discovered iMovie on my Mac.  It was amazing.  I learned how to work the software very quickly.  It amazes me how even when I get frustrated with what I’m doing when completing any of the above tasks I always want to willingly come back to them.  That lets me know that this is what I’m suppose to be doing.  I actually want to use my skills in my future career.  That’s how it’s suppose to be.  When you love what you do its not a job or a career to you; its just you doing what you love.

Personal Responsibility

Everyone should have a personal responsibility to himself or herself as far as taking the initiative to complete tasks or goals that one makes for himself or herself.  For instance, this article I read in huffington post that said, “Former law school students are now suing their law schools because they couldn't get a job after graduation.  Former interns are now suing their employers because they didn't get enough training during their internships.”  They should have taken initiative to obtain a job after graduation themselves instead of blaming and suing the law school and employers.  It’s not their fault that you didn’t network and make connection to have a job after graduation.  That is his or her own fault that they were in that situation not the school or their former employer. 

The Future of Mass Communication

The exact future of Mass Communication is an uncertainty, but we can predict that Mass Communication has a great future.  The bright future for Mass Communication is shown from radio broadcasts to visual media such as televisions shows, news and movies.  People will always be interested in this field; because it’s an interesting field to be in and continues to innovate.  Prime example people are getting famous and paid from their Youtube videos.  People will always want to listen to the radio, watch the new, read the papers or magazines, watch television or go see the latest movie that out.  So I do believe that Mass Communication will only grow more popular as the years come forth; because there will always be a demand for it.

How You Can Make a Difference in Your Profession and Your Community

Making a difference in my profession and community?  I would make a huge difference with the career I start out with, which is film.  I chose to start with this field instead of music; because it’s a lot easier for me to write a script, direct and produce a film them the music.  I believe the films I will write up and produce will touch the hearts and lives of people.  The films I am writing now both have drama and comedy, but it also has a message for the younger generation to come.  They both deal with teen pregnancy and the need for kids and teens to be just that kids and teens.  These films I believe will explain the difficulties faced in high school and with teen pregnancies.  Making a difference is important to me; because I want to show the younger generation that they can have a life without having sex; that there are plenty of activities to do besides sexuality ones.  I do hope that my two films I’m writing now as well as future films impact the lives of people in a good way.  I can only then feel as if I have accomplished something in life.  I don’t care about the fame.  It doesn’t mean a thing unless one enjoys what he or she does and make a difference for the good of their community and the rest of the world.  If I just touch the one person and make a change in his or her life I would feel accomplished.  That’s all that really matters in the end am I right?
