March: Performance Art
This month the Teen Insiders Project discussed performance art. We looked briefly to the past, starting with the Futurists. Mainly though, we thought about performance art as it is today. We talked to Patrick Melroy, artist and founder of Uppur Bunk, the art collective that stages neo-happenings around town and participatory art performances.
For our hands-on field trip we worked with the contemporary theatre company Proximity. The Insiders utilized their bodies as a medium for expression by translating their own ideas and writing into movement, and bravely "performed" in front of the group. Here are some images to prove it...
February: Collecting
TIP visited the incredible contemporary art collection of Jacquelyn Klein-Brown. Mrs. Klein-Brown lives among works of art. From the work of Jack Pierson, Ed Ruscha to Jenny Holzer, it was incredible to be exposed to her collection.
December: Photography (continued...)
For our Saturday field trip we had a private tour of wallspace gallery from director, Crista Dix. She talked about the artists she represents and showed us beautiful prints from her archives.
Then we headed over to the La Chambre Photographique, the studio and art gallery of Santa Barbara-based photographer Lindsey Ross. Ross makes tintype photographs. We got there just in time to observe her taking a portrait of a friend. This was incredible to see!
