Mighty Moose on the loose! 💪💪🇺🇸🇺🇸 The Boeing C-17A Globemaster III (nickname Moose) military transport aircraft has become the iconic platform in Operation Allies Refuge, the airlift operations to evacuate large numbers of foreign nationals and refugees from Afghanistan as the US withdraws from there for good after 20 years of war fighting. A salute to the Moose drivers and aircrew who are performing a Herculean task in maintaining the air bridge out of Afghanistan until the deadline on August, 31st. A 62nd Airlift Wing Moose from Joint-Base Lewis McChord blasts out of Singapore to join its compatriots in airlift operations wherever it is needed. A McChord C-17 Globemaster III sits on the runway at Pago Pago International Airport in American Samoa in December 2012.

The crew was enroute to Royal Australian Air Force Base Richmond, Australia, in support of a joint operation. Tropical Cyclone Evan had passed over American Samoa a week before this picture was taken, causing 6,000 people to take shelter in evacuation centers and $4.1 million in damages to infrastructure. The puddle in the foreground is a result of the rains from that storm system.
