Public or private. I just want you to know that once every couple of months my girlfriend and I get a jar of that raspberry jam and a loaf of soft brioche and we glut ourselves until the bread runs out. This is your fault. I mean, we love it but it's still your fault.
If you're still taking prompts I'd love Superlane 12, 13, or 18. Author's choice!
13. A kiss we had to wait for
Lucy takes a breath as she leads her entourage of agents toward the large building. For a moment she feels out of her element; she’s used to the part of the DEO she oversees, respects the duty she has in ensuring their secret alien prison remains just that.
“Director Lane?” Vasquez intones quietly.
Lucy shakes herself, not looking anywhere but at the above-ground DEO facility. “Let’s get to it. They need our help.”
Though Lucy hasn’t allowed herself to acknowledge it, she’s not looking forward to seeing Kar--Supergirl.
Still, she smiles when she spots Director J’onzz waiting at the front doors.
“So glad you could join us, Director Lane,” he says with the barest hint of a smile.
Lucy nods respectfully. “We all serve the same mission. Why don’t you brief us on the situation, Director?”
“Right this way,” J’onn says as he leads the way deeper into the facility.
*
Hours later when Lucy is shaking J’onn’s hand, she’s sure she’ll manage to leave the facility unscathed. “Let us know if there’s anything else we can do.”
“Don’t forget we can help you as well, Director Lane. Anytime, anything you need. We are all on the same team.” J’onn almost-smiles again.
Lucy’s shoulders relax. She smiles. “Of course.”
It stands to reason that, when Lucy finally lets her guard down, that’s when she turns and nearly runs straight into Kara.
Kara, who she hasn’t wanted to think about at all since Kara had chosen James. Or James had chosen Kara. Or, well, it doesn’t really matter.
“Supergirl,” she says tightly.
The tentative smile on Kara’s face disappears. “Lucy?”
Lucy takes a breath and plasters a smile on her face. She’s supposed to be okay with everything, after all. “Supergirl,” she repeats in a slightly friendlier tone, “it’s nice to see you, but we need to be returning to our own DEO facility.”
They make it out the door, but not much further.
“Hey!” Kara calls out from just behind them, “Lucy, please wait?”
Lucy purses her lips but gestures for the rest of the agents to proceed.
Vasquez shoots her look before going, shrugging and following the team to the black SUV parked in a small sea of other black SUVs.
“Can I help you, Supergirl?” Lucy asks as politely as possible.
“I, um,” Kara frowns and fidgets with her cape, her eyes darting to the ground before meeting Lucy’s. “I haven’t talked to you in a while and--well, we’re alone. You can call me Kara.”
“Kara,” Lucy internally braces herself, “it’s been nice to see you again, but I’ve got to get my agents back to the DEO.”
“Oh. Oh yeah, of course. I was just, um.” Kara swallows and reaches up for glasses that aren’t there, tucking hair behind her ear instead. “Would it be alright if I stopped by to see you sometime? Soon?”
“I...” Lucy blinks. The question isn’t one that she’s expected. “Sure.”
Kara grins. “Great.”
Lucy nods and forces a smile, waving a quick goodbye and turning toward the parking lot. Why the hell had she said yes?
*
Kara is considerate enough to text before popping by, and for that Lucy is grateful.
She holds a hand to her stomach, smoothing a hand over the dark olive fabric as she opens the door to let Kara in. “Hey.”
Kara smiles tentatively and steps in. She looks as pretty as always in a belted pastel dress, her hair pulled back into a neat pony tail. “Thanks for agreeing to see me.”
“Sure.” Lucy tucks her hands into her jeans and rocks back on her heels. “So... something to drink, or?”
She still isn’t sure why Kara had wanted to meet. Will this take long? Lucy doesn’t want it to take long. She needs Kara... not here. She’s not ready.
“No, no. I’m fine. I--you’re probably wondering why I’m here, why I wanted to see you now, um.”
Lucy balls her hands up in her pockets and shrugs. Is she really that obvious?
“James and I broke up,” Kara blurts out with wide eyes.
Lucy blinks slowly. “Okay?”
She isn’t sure how she feels, an odd fluttering in her stomach beginning as Kara blushes and sputters and fails to say something.
“I’m sorry to hear that,” Lucy manages.
Kara’s lips press into a thin line, her blue eyes searching Lucy’s face. “Are you?”
Lucy frowns. “I... don’t know.” She studies the way Kara’s chest heaves with a sudden intake of breath, unable to think clearly with Kara looking at her so intently.
“I like you, Lucy,” Kara says in one long exhale.
Again, Lucy slowly blinks. “What?”
Lucy’s skin prickles, a shock of energy pulsing through her at Kara’s words. Surely, Kara doesn’t mean--but Kara’s eyes have drooped to settle on her lips.
Lucy’s tongue darts out reflexively to moisten her lips, causing Kara to blush.
“I like you too.” Lucy is shocked by her own admission, but only for a moment.
She looks down, then back up at Kara. “I like you too,” she repeats firmly as she steps forward.
“Oh,” Kara whispers a moment before Lucy’s suddenly in front of her and leaning up on her toes.
Oh, yes, Lucy thinks as she slides her hands up into Kara’s hair and parts her lips to deepen the kiss, she definitely likes Kara.

There are A LOT of things that Supergirl should hope the general public don’t find out. The fact that the Kryptonian terrorists were led by her family. Or that she inadvertently dragged an entire ship of alien prisoners to earth many of whom went on to commit violent crimes on humans. That Supergirl put the earth in danger because of her own personal reluctance to kill Mon/Lena. That she saved Cat Grant over PoTUS (that she knew PoTUS was an alien not of US birth).
Now that’s not to say all of those things were her fault but they are all definitely things that could change public opinion on Supergirl and aliens in general.
She’s tRyINg heR BEST
Yeah it’s sort of like... I’m sure most sensible people would hear this stuff and be like “Yeah it sucks but half isn’t because of anything she actually did and I don’t know that I would do differently for the other half.”
(And the PoTUS thing, I kind of felt like Kara just saved who she saw. Like if she saw the president and Cat and chose Cat, that’d be different. Plus she can hold two people in her hands.)
But then there are people just waiting for Supergirl to slip up so they can say that all aliens are bad, so there would definitely suddenly be Discourse™.
And Kara is definitely the type to internalize things so if she isn’t already hella guilty about that, she probably would become so.
But idk, if people heard the whole story, of everything she’s sacrificed, they wouldn’t see her as a squeaky clean hero who only fucked up once because someone drugged her, but they’d still see what she’s sacrificed for the world.
Sure, she endangered the Earth because she was holding out hope to save everyone, even the people attacking, but... that’s kind of what we want in a hero. Someone who is willing to try harder to make the world the best version of itself.
And when it came down to it, when there were no other avenues, she did make the choice, herself, to sacrifice someone she loved for the good of the people.
Christ, I’d be writing ‘inspiring’ discourse defending her, wouldn’t I?
What a ledge. I love her foot skills and distribution. She's smart af. Fun fact: this game (2012 olys v france) was the first game I ever watched hope in 😭

Although I'm still left wondering if Kara killed Non ( or maybe lobotomized him?) not to mention whatever she did with the people in stasis on Fort Roz. She might not rage kill people but she's definitely shown herself to be murder-adjacent in a surprisingly dispassionate way. Which would be incredibly interesting to address if the writer's remembered season 1 existed.
She lobotomized Non. Which... she didn’t really have a choice? Not in a more abstract “I don’t think there is any other way” way, but a “I’m locked in a heat vision battle and if I stop I’m lobotomized but if I don’t he is” way.
There wasn’t a point where she could go “Can I choose not to kill him and live?” So I don’t think she’d quite feel guilty. Regretful, yes, that it turned out that way. But not guilty for the decision she made in that moment.
I’m not sure what happened to Fort Rozz, since they were in sleeping pods waiting to fly off but without a pilot?
Who knows if there was an autopilot ready to kick in on a timer or if Non and Indigo were going to fly it. Probably the latter. But if Kara knew how to fly it at all, she would have done that instead of heavy lifting, so it’s not like she had a choice that kept those in the ship safe. And if she woke them all up, they’re her enemies, so they’d try to prevent her from saving everyone. Plus no time.
So I’m not surprised she isn’t shown to be torn up about the possible eventual death of the army (who wanted everyone on Earth dead) that she inadvertently caused in the action of saving the world.
Plus with the highs of post-saving the world and getting promoted (plus the questions that come with that) and the lows of almost either dying or losing another world, I’m not surprised she wasn’t really letting that abstract loss of life sink in.
So maybe there’s an inkling of guilt that she was the cause of these two events, since Kara believes in redemption. But compared to everything else going on, even internally, it’s not pertinent for her to process. Especially not on the actual show, where they have new plot points every week.
In season 2 we saw her aversion to killing a bit, when she refused to kill Mr. Mxyzptlk and when Kara had to kill the scientist-turned-monster in “Changing”, after giving him a chance to stop and then apologizing as she did so. The way they addressed the second instance, when she had to kill, was the abstract “I don’t think there is another way” instance I spoke of before, and Kara likely thus feels guilty she couldn’t find a way to save him. (Also it was one of those ‘if he doesn’t try to kill me he won’t end up dying’ and ‘he performs the action that kills him’-trying to drain the energy from Kara but draining the energy from the reactor instead- situations. So it could be argued that Kara didn’t actively kill him, but that he killed himself.)
Of course, the second instance was a fleeting mention of her stance on killing, not really handling the weight of it, but it still affirmed that this is a character trait Kara has. That if there is any other way, Kara doesn’t kill or second-hand cause the death of someone.
The ‘dispassionate’ way she sees these mentioned events in the show it is a mark of the writing, a tendency of the writers to forget about it to focus on other stuff, not a trait of the character herself.
So what I mean is, the thing they would address in the show wouldn’t be her dispassion, but would be a passionate version of her values.
Of course, Kara would never kill someone out of rage. It sickens me when people write her doing that, honestly. Not because of my personal feelings on it, but because of who Kara is and wants to be (and how, if she were real, she would feel about someone writing a story about her doing that).
Kara having absolutely no other choice because she or someone she loves is going to die unless she kills is one thing (a thing I don’t fancy reading- I’d always have her find a way out of it- but I understand the story choice), but having her kill someone because she’s overly emotional? Nope. Nah. No. No thanks. Not her.
So... I guess the show doesn’t always really let her core value of not killing whenever possible hit home with it’s full impact, as a real plot point the way it deserves to be, but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna let fic writers forget it exists entirely.
I was interested in the first look at the new Lara...
Wait, then what’s the point of using the 2013 game??? There are a bunch of others stories in the games and comic books to choose from why bother using the reboot if they’re going to cut out the supporting cast? I’m just
I don’t know. Apparently they liked the concept and the visuals, just not that she was looking for Yamatai?
Apparently in the movie she’s searching for her dad, to try and discover if he’s alive or not. So I’m guessing they ripped the island and survival idea from the game because Father Mathias is still in it - they’ve just stripped away all of Lara’s found family/crew.
mccrabbit Did you ever ship Myka and Helena from Warehouse...
Pete and Myka became a thing? Oh man that’s awful. I think I stopped watching way before that (maybe when HG left??) as a sort of lesbian self-defense mechanism.
Yeah, I probably should have listened to everyone saying to ignore the last season, but I thought - ‘it can’t be that bad, can it?’ Except it was. Oh, it was.
