Joined my MCCY colleagues at their annual Chinese New Year Celebration on Tuesday. We were treated to an energetic lion dance performance, followed by a Chinese dance performance by the graceful students from School of the Arts. All of us can contribute to a more caring society; we can start by helping people around us, or volunteering for causes we are passionate about. At @mccysg, we want to foster a culture of care and volunteerism, so as to strengthen trust and unity in our society. I shared on @mediacorpch5 how we will make volunteer opportunities more accessible, and volunteer experiences more enriching. With volunteer centres to be appointed in 7 towns by the end of this year, there will also be more dedicated efforts to match volunteers to the needs of the local community. We just ended Committee of Supply Debate for Budget 2019 yesterday. Political office holders shared plans of respective ministries for the year ahead, and responded to questions and suggestions by MPs. Helping us with our speeches are many people working behind the scene. While we are the face of the ministry in parliament and public, many hardworking staff help us to cover the many areas in the ministry’s portfolio. On Monday, I tried out Collab & Conquer with 5 other participants, some of whom I’ve not met before. Our mission was to find a stolen $3m painting hidden in the Escape Room. Conceived by MCCY and Kult, Collab & Conquer is a unique, museum-themed Escape Room built into a 7m-long truck. The aim is for Singaporeans from all walks of life to come together, work in teams, and have fun. Collab & Conquer is completely free of charge. Even though we didn’t find the painting in the end, I had a great time! It brought home the value of team work, as we had to leverage one another’s strengths to solve the puzzles. Apart from the Escape Room, there were other exciting fringe activities too. So it’s a 10/10 for me. 🙂 Collab & Conquer is currently at Plaza Singapura until Friday, and roving to Raffles City, Hillion Mall and Our Tampines Hub. Response has been so good that MCCY has just added more slots for the public to sign-up. Deepavali (literally translated as “row of lights”; also known as the festival of lights) is celebrated by Hindus all over the world. The festival celebrates victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. MCCY held its annual Deepavali Celebration on 8 November 2018.
